  • Patent number: 5589126
Abstract: This invention relates to polyester/plasticizer blends which are useful as heat-shrinkable films or sheet in low temperature shrink packaging applications. The plasticizer is injected into the melt of the polyester. The plasticizer lowers the glass transition temperature, on-set temperature and shrink rate of the polyester. Film or sheet produced by the polyester/plasticizer blends is clear.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 4, 1996
Date of Patent: December 31, 1996
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company
Inventors: Wayne K. Shih, Ronald R. Light
  • Patent number: 5567511
Abstract: A label for containers comprises a foamed polyester film that has a density of less than 1 g/cm.sup.3. The foamed polyester film may be blown away in air and then floated away in water during the recycle process for containers. After separation from the containers the foamed polyester film may be reclaimed by a chemical process to recover raw materials for polyesters.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 22, 1996
    Assignee: Eastman Chemical Company

  • Patent number: 5484632
Abstract: Monolayer and multilayer non-oriented polyester films comprising of at least one layer of an amorphous heat-sealing polyester wherein the heat-sealing polyester consisting essentially of terephthalic acid, ethylene glycol, and about 7-15 mol % cyclohexanedimethanol. The heat-sealing polyester has a heat of fusion greater than 0.5 cal/g and is sufficiently crystallizable to allow the drying of mixtures of the heat-sealing polyesters with other crystallizable polyesters without sticking. Multilayered films also contain a layer of an amorphous crystallizable polyethylene terephthalate.
