  • Publication number: 20020060570
Abstract: A borehole survey method is provided for processing continuous measurements of the earth's magnetic and gravitational fields obtained while drilling a borehole. The present invention improves borehole acquisition of targeted geological structures by substantially reducing continuous measurement errors attributable to noise, shock and vibrations from turning the drill bit against rock.

  • Patent number: 6388185
Abstract: A device for generating power to run an electronic component. The device includes a heat-conducting substrate (composed, e.g., of diamond or another high thermal conductivity material) disposed in thermal contact with a high temperature region. During operation, heat flows from the high temperature region into the heat-conducting substrate, from which the heat flows into the electrical power generator. A thermoelectric material (e.g., a BiTe alloy-based film or other thermoelectric material) is placed in thermal contact with the heat-conducting substrate. A low temperature region is located on the side of the thermoelectric material opposite that of the high temperature region. The thermal gradient generates electrical power and drives an electrical component.

  • Patent number: 6148275
Abstract: An improved system or and method of connecting a hardware modeling element to the pin electronics circuitry of a hardware modeling system, with the improved system having circuitry and structures that will allow it to be connected to a hardware modeling system that is powered, circuitry to indicate to the pin electronics circuitry that the improved system is connected to it, circuitry to identify the hardware modeling element supported by the improved system to the hardware modeling system, circuitry to indicate to the hardware modeling system when the hardware modeling element is initialized so evaluation of it by the hardware modeling system can commence, circuitry to generate selectable supply voltages for the powering the hardware modeling element, and a hardware modeling element connector that will allow the connection of a family of hardware modeling elements to the same connector without the need to change the connector.

  • Patent number: 5737416
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided in a data processing system for securing access to particular files which are stored in a computer-accessible memory media. A file management program is provided as an operating system component of the data processing system. At least one encrypted file and at least one unencrypted file are stored in the computer-accessible memory media. An unencrypted security stub is associated with each of the encrypted files. The security stub is at least partially composed of executable code. The file management program is utilized to monitor data processing calls for a called file stored in the computer-accessible memory media. The file management program determines what the called file has an associated unencrypted security stub. The called file is processed in a particular manner dependent upon whether or not the called file has an associated unencrypted security stub.

  • Patent number: 4984479
Abstract: An auxiliary cable control system in a hand lever control system for a walk-behind traction vehicle is directly responsive to movement of a first hand control lever and acts to latch a second hand control lever in its operable position in response to the first hand control means being moved to its operable position, thus freeing one hand of the operator as long as the first hand control lever remains depressed. The auxiliary control cable has a cable support and a pivotal cam-slot lever that cooperates with a stop member associated with the second hand control lever. Once the traction drive hand lever is released, that is, the traction is stopped, both drives are immediately disconnected by means of the auxiliary cable control system.

  • Patent number: 4949206
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a read/write head at a selected one of a plurality of substantially circular, concrete data tracks and for absorbing the rebound shock of a rotary actuator, the apparatus including a head actuator assembly having at least one read/write head mounted thereon, an actuator housing, and a stationary coil coupled to the head actuator. At least one permanent magnet is fixedly mounted relative to the head actuator. Upper and lower magnetic plates support the permanent magnet and each has at least two cavities which are substantially aligned with, but displaced off-axis from, the cavities of the other plate. At least two crash stops are provided, one to limit pivoting movement of the head actuator at the inner diameter of the hard disk and the other to limit movement of the head actuator at the outer disk diameter.

  • Patent number: 4207855
Abstract: A system is provided for varying the number of active cylinders in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, in response to the operating requirements of the engine. When the engine reaches that part of its operating range where the torque requirement is such that operation of all of the cylinders is not required to provide adequate and efficient power, certain cylinders are rendered inactive, thereby reducing the fuel consumed by the engine. A control system is provided which, upon sensing a reduced torque requirement upon the engine, activates a switch which de-energizes the spark generating electrodes of certain cylinders, and concurrently activates solenoid valve means whereby fuel vapor in the deactivated cylinders may be bypassed through the cylinders and returned to the fuel supply system of the engine for later use. In one embodiment of the system, novel spark producing means is provided which includes the fuel bypass valve means.

  • Patent number: 4031583
Abstract: An emergency evacuation device adapted for mounting on the edge of the deck of a ship or platform has a panel formed of two hinged sections which upon release rotate over the edge of the deck forming a protective apron. Devices are operatively associated with release of the panel to activate a system for inflating an emergency evacuation device such as a slide or slide/raft stowed in the container. The slide or slide/raft may be situated on an adjustable slope sheet which assists the slide or slide/raft in being properly and effectively deployed.
