Abstract: A data store manager of a multi-data-store journal-based database performs a sequential analysis of committed transaction entries of a journal. A particular entry includes a directive to determine a value of an attribute of a data object based on a result obtained from a value generator, and does not specify the value of the attribute. The data store manager determines the value using a local version of the value generator, and stores the value in a materialized version of the data object. In response to a programmatic read request, the data store manager provides the materialized version of the data object.

Abstract: A materialization configuration request is received via a programmatic interface from a client of a journal-based multi-data-store database. The request indicates a partitioning rule to be used to select, for respective writes indicated in committed transaction entries of a journal, the materialization node at which the writes are to be stored. A control plane component of the database verifies that a set of materialization nodes corresponding to the partitioning rule has been established, and initiates the propagation of writes from the journal to the materialization nodes by respective write appliers.

Abstract: A journal manager of a multi-data-store storage system receives a transaction which includes a message to be stored in the storage system's journal if the transaction request is accepted for commit. The journal manager performs a conflict detection operation, accepts the transaction request, and stores a corresponding committed transaction entry including the message in the journal. A write applier associated with a registered materialization node of the journal reads the committed transaction entry and applies a write indicated in the entry. A registered message subscriber of the journal reads the committed transaction entry asynchronously with respect to the write applier, and reads the contents of the message without applying the write.

A server receives an anonymous signal from a browser, and selectively determines a resource identifier corresponding to one of the plurality of Internet domains, by accessing data structures that are stored apart from the browser. The server generates a signal corresponding to the resource identifier, and sends the signal, to allow the browser to access a signal associated with the resource identifier.

Abstract: A method and system for automatically loading and unloading a transport is disclosed. A first guidance system follows a travel path to a position near the transport and then a sensor profiles a transport so that a transport path is determined for an AGV to follow into the transport to place a load and for exiting the transport upon placement of the load.

Abstract: A messaging system and method suitable for use with wireless mobile terminals. The system includes a message server for receiving and sending messages and converting messages to a baseline such as an XML representation; a message processor for controlling the system's operation; a database for storing information about messaging capabilities of mobile terminals; and a transcoder for filtering the baseline representation according to the capability of a mobile terminal. A subscriber enters a profile that includes the messaging capability of the mobile terminal, which is stored in the database. When the server receives a message for the subscriber's terminal, it converts the message to the baseline. The transcoder filters the baseline according to the capability of the terminal, and returns the result to the server for format and protocol conversion and sending to the terminal.

Abstract: Provided is a method for the control and display of a four-dimensional computer operating system. A virtual four-dimensional space continuum is created, in which all interactions of the programs and the user take place. The user interacts with the computer system on a four-dimensional level through the user interface, allowing the system to respond and interact with the user. This invention allows computer systems to interact on a higher level, allowing more information to pass between the user and computer system.

Conferencing hardware such as a microphone and speakers for audio content and a video camera for video content are interfaced to the hardware platform, typically through an I/O bus of the hardware platform. Abstract: A method and system are disclosed in a network application for decreasing performance degradation by preventing inadvertent launching of multiple copies of identical network applications. Initially, a remote application is launched from a server to a client in response to a user input event. Next, it is determined if a remote application identical to the remote application has already been launched. If the remote application has already been launched, an elapsed time since the identical remote application was initially launched is determined. Thereafter, the launching of the network application is terminated if the elapsed time is less than a preset value. Alternatively, if the elapsed time is greater than the preset value, the network application is launched. Additionally, if the elapsed time is greater than the preset value, a weighted value of applications running with the client is determined. Thereafter, the network application is launched if the weighted value is small.

Abstract: A method and system are displayed in a computer network for providing a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional graphic representation to be displayed in association with the three-dimensional graphic representation. The computer network includes a client connectable to a server. Initially, a remote application is transferred from the server to a client. Next, the remote application is displayed within a graphic interface of the client system. Thereafter, the remote application is automatically searched for three-dimensional data representative of a three-dimensional graphic representation. If the remote application includes three-dimensional data, then the three-dimensional data is automatically converted to a two-dimensional representation. Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for providing help-data in association with applications launched from a network, such that the applications are displayed within a window of a graphical user interface. Initially, an application is selected from among a number of applications, which are constructed from data generated at a server located within the network. Next, help-data associated with that application is identified. Thereafter, the identified help-data is automatically converted to hypertext data if the identified help-data is derived from a native format other than hypertext format. Hypertext links associated with the identified help-data are then automatically displayed within a window of the graphical user interface. Thereafter, the help-data is automatically displayed within a window of the graphical user interface as a hypertext document, in response to an invocation of the hypertext link by a user of the application.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving security for a workstation accessing network resources through a web browser interface. A three step procedure is provided on the workstation for testing the origin and filetype extensions of command files, retrieved by a web browser, to determine whether they may be executed on the workstation. Step one of the invention consists of creating a non-standard command filetype extension on the workstation to be protected. This is followed by step two which isolates specific network or system resources for all approved command files. Finally, step three protects the command file contents and sub-directory locations on the protected workstation. The invention grants execute permission for an application file command files only when all three conditions of the above steps are met.

Abstract: A two stroke internal combustion engine (5) having a transfer port (9) and an exhaust port (8) in a cylinder (6) which are opened and closed in a timed relationship by the reciprocating movement of a piston (7). The exhaust port (8) communicates with an exhaust passage that is tuned to provide a pressure pattern in the exhaust passage that will create at the exhaust port (8) a predetermined pressure pattern while the exhaust port (8) is open. Coolant is supplied to the exhaust passage when the engine is subject to increasing transient load conditions, at engine speeds below the tuned speed, and at a controlled rate to establish a tuned state in the exhaust passage during the transient condition.

Abstract: An apparatus for preparing metallic radioactive waste material for storage is disclosed. The radioactive waste material is placed in a radiation shielded enclosure. The waste material is then melted with a plasma torch and cast into a plurality of successive horizontal layers in a mold to form a radioactive ingot in the shape of a spent nuclear fuel rod storage canister. The apparatus comprises a radiation shielded enclosure having an opening adapted for receiving a conventional transfer cask within which radioactive waste material is transferred to the apparatus. A plasma torch is mounted within the enclosure. A mold is also received within the enclosure for receiving the melted waste material and cooling it to form an ingot. The enclosure is preferably constructed in at least two parts to enable easy transport of the apparatus from one nuclear site to another.
