  • Patent number: 9694317
Abstract: A method for removing contaminants from industrial exhaust gas. The method includes contacting the exhaust gas with a mist of water and RNH2 (amine) to form a liquid solution of CO2. The method further includes extracting the liquid solution of CO2 and contacting the exhaust gas with granular activated carbon.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2013
Date of Patent: July 4, 2017
Assignee: Altira Technology Fund V L.P.
Inventors: Wayne S. Littleford, Sanjeev Jolly, Dan Nolan, Andrew Verdouw

  • Publication number: 20130283796
Abstract: A method for reducing NOx and recovering waste heat from a stream of exhaust gas from a fossil fuel fired turbine includes contacting the stream of exhaust gas between an economizer and an evaporator with ozone gas to convert the NO to nitrogen dioxide (NO2) thereby forming a stream of exhaust gas comprising NO2 and residual NO. The method further includes, contacting the stream of exhaust gas comprising NO2 and residual NO with water mist to create an exhaust stream comprising nitric acid (HNO3) and residual NO. The method further includes cooling the stream of exhaust gas comprising HNO3 and residual NO, collecting a first residual water film on a first condensing medium to capture the HNO3 and removing the first water film and HNO3.

  • Patent number: 8435331
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the invention relates to a method to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) to an alcohol. The method involves contacting a stream of flue gas comprising the CO2 from a combustion process with water mist to create a mixture of liquid carbonic acid (H2CO3) and wastewater. The method further involves extracting the liquid H2CO3 from the mixture and pressurizing the liquid H2CO3 to generate pressurized liquid H2CO3. The method further involves combining the pressurized liquid H2CO3 with a first liquid reagent in a first hydrolysis chamber creating the alcohol from combining the pressurized liquid H2CO3 with the first liquid reagent.
    Type: Grant
