  • Patent number: 4379875
Abstract: Nitrile barrier resin latexes containing a coalescing agent which (1) is a solvent for the nitrile barrier resin, (2) has a boiling point between 100.degree. and 300.degree. C., and (3) does not azeotrope with water are excellent oxygen barriers and have good chemical resistance when coated on various substrates. Especially effective coalescing agents are selected from the group consisting of dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetimide, methyl pyrrolidone, dimethyl sulfoxide, glycol carbonate and tetramethylene sulfone.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4359506
Abstract: A synthetic resin laminated structure is produced by bonding together in a molten state a layer of a (I) nitrile barrier resin, (II) a layer of a polymer mixture comprising a nitrile barrier resin and a halogenated polyolefin, and (III) a layer of a thermoplastic resin. The thermoplastic resins useful in this invention include polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, polyvinylchlorides, styrene containing polymers such as ABS, SAN and polystyrene, polycarbonates, polyurethanes, polysulfones, polyamides and nitrile barrier resins.

  • Patent number: 4339502
Abstract: This invention relates to a blend of a vinyl aromatic-diene block copolymer rubber and a nitrile barrier resin, and to the use of this mixture as a tie-layer to adhere a nitrile barrier resin to a thermoplastic resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 24, 1980

  • Patent number: 4307207
Abstract: Impact resistant polymeric compositions are composed of a blend of a high nitrile resin and a hydrophobic nylon. The high nitrile resins useful in this invention are those produced by polymerizing a major proportion of a monounsaturated nitrile, e.g. acrylonitrile, and a minor proportion of another monovinyl monomer component, e.g. methyl acrylate, copolymerizable therewith optionally in the presence of a preformed rubber. The hydrophobic nylons useful in this invention comprise nylon-11, nylon-12 anc cyclic nylons.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 22, 1981
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company
Inventors: Wayne T. Wiggins, Gerald P. Coffey
  • Patent number: 4243707
Abstract: In the coating of the surface of metal substrates with an acrylonitrile copolymer from an aqueous latex of said copolymer, the adhesion of the copolymer to the metal surface is improved by the inclusion in the latex of a condensation product of certain metal hydroxides or borates with a certain type of phosphate emulsifier.
