  • Patent number: 11477701
Abstract: A mobile communication device including a wireless transceiver and a controller is provided. The wireless transceiver performs wireless transmission and reception to and from a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) network using a first Radio Access Technology (RAT). The controller establishes one or more radio bearers with the first 3GPP network via the wireless transceivers, and establishes a secure tunnel with a non-3GPP interworking gateway of a second 3GPP network via the radio bearers. The second 3GPP network utilizes a second RAT. Also, the controller registers, via the secure tunnel, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) service with an IMS server communicatively connected to the second 3GPP network, so as to make a voice call over the first 3GPP network.

  • Publication number: 20200112900
Abstract: Various examples and schemes pertaining to enhancement of Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) signaling reliability in mobile communications are described. A processor of an apparatus receives, at a layer 2 of a New Radio (NR) protocol stack, a packet for a specific type of signaling from an application layer of the NR protocol stack. The processor identifies, at the layer 2, one data radio bear (DRB) to be used for delivery of the packet. The processor then activates a reliability enhancement mechanism for the identified DRB such that a retransmission of the packet via the identified DRB is coordinated at the layer 2 or a layer above the layer 2.

  • Publication number: 20190149583
Abstract: A method of improving initial IMS registration after 403 Forbidden response is proposed. A UE sends a SIP register to an IMS server for initiating IMS registration. The initial IMS registration fails and the UE receives a SIP message with a 403 Forbidden response code. In the 403 Forbidden response code, the IMS server includes an XML body and uses the <reason> header value of the XML body to indicate an error type (e.g., temporary or permanent) followed by a retry-after timer value. As a result, the network can indicate to UE whether the IMS registration rejection is permanent or is due to some temporary internal failure. By adding the retry-after timer value, the network can indicate to UE when to retry the next IMS registration.

  • Patent number: 9814081
Abstract: A communications apparatus includes a baseband signal processing device, an RF signal processing device, a memory device, and a processor. The processor transmits a normal call-establishment signal with a remote identifier to a network to originate a normal call in response to a first call-origination request with the remote identifier, receives an indication message indicating that the normal call is routed as an emergency call from the network, records the remote identifier in the memory device, and when receiving a second call-origination request with the remote identifier, transmits an emergency call-establishment signal with the remote identifier to the network to originate an emergency call in response to the second call-origination request.

  • Patent number: 9462618
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for a voice over LTE system to shorten the call set up time. In one novel aspect, the mobile origination (MO) UE starts the UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation before receiving any responses from the remote UE. In another embodiment, the mobile termination (MT) UE starts the UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation upon receiving the INVITE from the remote UE. In one embodiment, the UE adjusts the timeout value based on the PLMN information in its PLMN database. The timeout value can be set to be zero if early reservation is allowed. Upon timer expires, the UE starts UE-initiated dedicated resource allocation. In one novel aspect, the MO UE retrieves the codec information of a remote UE from its peer profile information database and uses a matching codec in its INVITE message. In another embodiment, the MT MO includes the SDP answer in its 180 RINGING message.
