Patent number: 10859019Abstract: Starting a gaseous fuelled engine employing a pilot fuel at cold temperatures is challenging due to reduced ignitability and combustion efficiency of the fuel(s), and the increased viscosity of engine oil. A technique for starting a compression ignition, gaseous fuelled internal combustion engine employing a pilot fuel comprises determining one of a normal start condition and a cold start condition; during the normal start condition, introducing the pilot fuel into a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine when the pilot fuel pressure rises above a first pressure; during the cold start condition, introducing the pilot fuel into the combustion chamber when the pilot fuel pressure rises above a second pressure that is higher than the first pressure; and selectively introducing the gaseous fuel into the combustion chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2015Date of Patent: December 8, 2020Assignee: WESTPORT POWER INC.Inventors: Wei Fei, James D Walker

Patent number: 9850827Abstract: Emission targets, such as NOx levels, for gaseous fuelled internal combustion engines that burn a gaseous fuel in a diffusion combustion mode are increasingly more challenging to achieve. A method of fuel injection for an internal combustion engine fuelled with a gaseous fuel comprises introducing a first amount of pilot fuel in a first stage of fuel injection; introducing a first amount of main fuel (the gaseous fuel) in a second stage of fuel injection; and introducing a second amount of main fuel in a third stage of fuel injection. The first and second amounts of main fuel contribute to load and speed demand of the internal combustion engine. Engine maps calibrated for different engine performance can be employed in different regions of the load and speed range of the engine. The engine maps are blended when the engine transitions between two regions; and momentary excursions into different regions do not change the engine calibration.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2014Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: WESTPORT POWER INC.Inventors: Wei Fei, James D. Walker, Gordon P. McTaggart-Cowan, Kenneth R. Mann

Patent number: 9369772Abstract: System and methods are provided for encoding a video stream. A video encoder may encode a frame and generate output bits to a buffer. A first PID controller may receive a first error signal and generate a preliminary bit budget for the frame, the first error signal being based on a complexity measure of the frame. A second PID controller may receive the preliminary bit budget, a second error signal and a predetermined bit rate setting, the second error signal being representative of a difference between a target number of bits stored in the buffer and a feedback status of the buffer. The second PID controller may generate a final bit budget for the frame, and provide the final bit budget for the frame to the video encoder.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2011Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: MARVELL INTERNATIONAL LTD.Inventor: Wei Fei

Publication number: 20160138510Abstract: Engines fuelled with gaseous fuel stored in liquefied form comprise different strategies and controls for managing gaseous fuel compared to other systems, previously resulting in an ad hoc arrangements of controllers. An engine control apparatus comprises an internal combustion engine fuelled with a gaseous fuel stored in liquefied form and a control unit programmed with a fuel system module, for monitoring gaseous fuel pressure and actuating a fuel injection apparatus for introducing gaseous fuel into a combustion chamber, and a liquefied gaseous fuel module, for monitoring the quantity of liquefied gaseous fuel remaining in a storage vessel and controlling a pumping apparatus that pumps liquefied gaseous fuel from the storage vessel to a vaporizer. The fuel system control module and the liquefied gaseous fuel control module cooperate to introduce gaseous fuel in the combustion chamber at a predetermined pressure as a function of engine operating conditions.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2014Publication date: May 19, 2016Inventors: Mathieu P. BOUVIER, Justin DUAN, Wei FEI, Fadi KANAFANI

Patent number: 8931742Abstract: A cable management apparatus includes two mounting brackets, a cable management arm connected between the two mounting brackets and slidable vertically, and two elevating mechanisms. Each of the elevating mechanisms includes opposite sides respectively rotatably connected to one of the mounting brackets and abutting a bottom of the cable management arm. When the elevating mechanisms are rotated relative to the mounting brackets, the elevating mechanisms drive the cable management arm to slide vertically. The cable management arm defines a number of positioning holes. Each of the elevating mechanisms includes a locating pin to be operable to engage in one of the corresponding positioning holes to prevent the rotation of the elevating mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2012Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: ScienBiziP Consulting (Shen zhen) Co., Ltd.Inventors: Xin-Hu Gong, Ju-Wen Dai, Wei-Fei Ding
