  • Patent number: 7478620
Abstract: A method to operate a multi-cylinder direct-injection engine in one of a controlled auto-ignition and a spark-ignition combustion mode is described. Engine operation and an operator torque request are monitored. Fuel delivery to a portion of the cylinders is selectively deactivated and torque output from non-deactivated cylinders is selectively increased to achieve the operator torque request when the monitored engine operation is above a predetermined threshold. An engine operating point at which an engine load demand exceeds an operating capability of the engine in a stoichiometric HCCI mode is identified. The engine is selectively operated in an unthrottled spark-ignition mode with at least one cylinder unfueled and torque output from the remaining cylinders is selectively increased.

  • Publication number: 20090001489
Abstract: A structure of a silicon photodetector and a method for forming the same by using the conventional CMOS semiconductor manufacturing process and micro-electromechanical system manufacturing process, in which the micro-electromechanical system manufacturing process (lateral etching process) is applied for elimination of effect and interference caused by a substrate of the silicon photodetector after optical absorption thereof, thereby greatly improving the response speed of the silicon photodetector. This can be done only by applying the lateral etching process onto a portion of the substrate of the silicon photodetector after the semiconductor manufacturing process is finished, through which slow diffusion carriers produced from the optical absorption of the substrate can be effectively reduced and the response speed is thus enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7457537
Abstract: An optical telecommunication system with automatic channel switching is disclosed. The system is provided with two symmetrical fiber channels and two subsystems. Each subsystem is formed by two 2×2 optical switches that are connected to each end of the primary and secondary channels, including an input light source, an optical receiver, multiple fiber optic power meters, and a control circuit. Data signals are normally sent over the primary channel, while test signals are passed through the secondary channel. The fiber optic power meters are connected to the receiving ends to monitor the power level of transmitted signals over the two channels simultaneously. If a line disconnection is detected, the control circuit automatically initiates a channel switching between the primary channel and secondary channel, and yet optical signals are transmitted and received transparently with high efficiency and reliability.
