  • Publication number: 20080066888
Abstract: A heat sink comprises a base panel having a top surface and a bottom surface. A plurality of pin fins extend outwardly from the top surface and each fin has a cross-sectional configuration with two radiuses, a first radius and a second radius, wherein the first radius is larger than the second radius. The first and second radiuses are tangentially interconnected by intermediate portions, giving the pin fin cross-sectional configuration a raindrop shape, thereby generating low pressure drop across the heat sink by minimizing the drag force effects and maintaining large exposed surface area available for heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 7115317
Abstract: A seal has a non-woven fabric folded along lines transverse to the opposite side of the seal and secured by adhesive to fabric strips. The non-woven fabric forms elongated cells with a plurality of the cells receiving inserts to increase seal stiffness. By securing one of these strips to a stationary component of the sealing surfaces, the opposite strip may expand or collapse relative to a movable sealing surface to accommodate excursions of that surface. Multiple layers of cells may be provided in the seals. The inserts may have various cross-sectional configurations including circular, triangular or rhombic and formed of tubes, solid rods or coiled springs.

  • Patent number: 6957945
Abstract: Apparatus (10) controls net thrust in a steam turbine (T) in response to changes in the operating condition of the turbine. The turbine includes a thrust bearing (B) positioned between low and intermediate pressure sections (LP, IP) of the turbine and a high pressure section (HP) thereof. Sensors (14) for sense thrust loads on the thrust bearing. A number of control valve (CV1-CV4) are used to balance pressures occurring at locations within the high pressure section of the turbine. A controller (16) is responsive to the sensors sensing a change within the turbine indicative of a significant change in net thrust to energize one or more of the control valves and to adjust the pressure within the high pressure section of the turbine so to maintain net thrust within an acceptable range of thrust values.

  • Publication number: 20050123377
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus that fastens elements of a frame assembly. The frame assembly implements fasteners as independent elements from both a housing and a corresponding housing cover. Exemplary embodiments of such fasteners may include the hook nut fasteners disclosed herein. Generally, such fasteners include a central portion providing a contact area disposed in the plane of a housing fastening aperture, an extension tab providing a contact area on a housing interior wall, and an extension block providing a contact area on a housing exterior wall. The extension block may include a hollow portion configured to receive a securing bolt. One advantageous application of the invention relates to automobile motor assembly housings. Specifically, in that embodiment the hook nut fastening assembly reinforces the motor housing and provides additional support to the assembly by reinforcing the joints between an end-cover and a motor assembly main body.
