Abstract: An electronic device having updatable BIOS is used to perform a BIOS updating method. The electronic device electrically connects to a server, in which update data is stored. The electronic device includes a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), a network connection module and a switch. A BIOS program is stored in the BIOS, and a connecting program is stored in the network connection module for connecting to the server. When the electronic device is updating, the BIOS switches to electrically connect to the network connection module via the switch, and the network connection module connects to the server by executing the connecting program, downloads the update data applying to the BIOS, and overwrites the update data to the BIOS to update the BIOS program.

Abstract: A method of backing up BIOS settings stored in a CMOS memory of a computer system in DMI memory. In this method, the DMI memory in the flash memory backs up the BIOS settings data stored in the CMOS memory on the motherboard. The BIOS settings stored in the DMI memory can be restored to the CMOS memory to update the BIOS settings for the computer system when the BIOS settings stored in the CMOS memory are lost.

Abstract: A method of write-protecting a MAC address of a peripheral terminal stored in a DMI memory. First, programs capable of erasing the MAC address stored in the first memory are disabled. Then, a DMI setting is executed to write-protect the MAC address stored in the second memory. Finally, a program is provided capable of pre-storing the original MAC address.

Abstract: A method for updating or recovering a BIOS setting. The procedure for updating BIOS recovery and upgrade are accomplished by a BIOS update program along with a data file. By executing the BIOS update program, hardware information comprised in the data file is decompressed to obtain the flash memory format, and a BIOS image file comprised in the data file is then written to the flash memory accordingly.
