Publication number: 20110260927Abstract: A mobile communication device comprises a dielectric substrate and an antenna. The dielectric substrate has a ground region, a first no-ground region and a second no-ground region. The ground region comprises a primary ground plane and a protruded ground plane. The protruded ground plane is electrically connected to the primary ground plane and extends between the first no-ground region and the second no-ground region, such that the protruded ground plane separates the first no-ground region from the second no-ground region. The antenna comprises a first radiating portion and a second radiating portion. The first radiating portion is disposed in the first no-ground region. The start terminal of the second radiating portion is disposed in the second no-ground region. The second radiating portion extends and crosses over the protruded ground plane such that the end terminal of the second radiating portion is disposed in the first no-ground region.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2010Publication date: October 27, 2011Applicants: NATIONAL SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY, INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTEInventors: Kin Lu WONG, Yu Wei Chang, Chun Yih Wu, Wei Yu Li

Publication number: 20110122027Abstract: A mobile communication device includes a ground plane and an antenna. The antenna is disposed on a dielectric substrate and includes a radiating metal portion, a coupling metal portion, and an inductive shorting metal portion. The radiating metal portion provides a resonant path for the antenna to generate first and second operating bands. The coupling metal portion is coupled to the radiating metal portion to form a first coupling portion and is connected to a source through a connecting metal strip. One end of the inductive shorting metal portion is electrically connected to the radiating metal portion, and the other end is electrically connected to the ground plane. The inductive shorting metal portion includes a first fractional section coupled to the radiating metal portion to form a second coupling portion, and a second fractional section coupled to the coupling metal portion to form a third coupling portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: May 26, 2011Applicants: INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NATIONAL SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITYInventors: Kin Lu WONG, Ming Fang Tu, Chun Yih Wu, Wei Yu Li

Patent number: 7889140Abstract: An ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna and a plug-and-play (PnP) device using the same are provided. A dielectric substrate of the PnP device has a ground plane. The UWB antenna includes a radiating metal plate and a feeding portion. The radiating metal plate is in a non-ground region of the dielectric substrate and has at least a slit cut. An opening of the slit cut is at the edge of the radiating metal plate facing the ground plane. The feeding portion is also at the edge of the radiating metal plate facing the ground plate for feeding a signal to the antenna.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 2007Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignees: Lite-On Technology Corporation, National Sun Yat-Sen UniversityInventors: Kin-Lu Wong, Yu-Chan Yang, Wei-Yu Li, Saou-Wen Su, Jui-Hung Chou

Patent number: 7692599Abstract: An ultra-wideband shorted dipole antenna includes a coaxial cable line and first and second open-loop radiating metal plates with substantially the same shape. The coaxial cable line has a central conducting wire and an outer grounder sheath. The first and second open-loop radiating metal plates are symmetrically disposed on two sides of the antenna to form two arms of the antenna and are electrically connected to each other. Each of the first and second open-loop radiating metal plates has a signal feeding point electrically connected to the central conducting wire or the outer grounder sheath of the coaxial cable line.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2008Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignees: National Sun Yat-Sen University, Lite-On Technology CorporationInventors: Kin-Lu Wong, Wei-Yu Li, Saou-Wen Su

Patent number: 7609213Abstract: A broadband antenna is capable of generating an upper resonant mode (at about 700 MHz) from a first radiating arm and a lower resonant mode (at about 500 MHz) from a second radiating arm. The first and second radiating arms are bent at least one time. An open end of the second radiating arm is extended toward an open end of the first radiating arm with a predefined distance there between. The predefined distance can be adjusted to improve the impedance matching of lower resonant mode, which can be further combined with the upper resonant mode to achieve a broad bandwidth covering the complete spectrum of digital TV channels (470-862 MHz).Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2007Date of Patent: October 27, 2009Assignees: Lite-On Technology Corp., National Sun Yat-Sen UniversityInventors: Kin-Lu Wong, Yu-Chan Yang, Wei-Yu Li, Saou-Wen Su, Jui-Hung Chou
