The method includes: determining a type of an application that invokes the input method; determining, according to the type, dimension information corresponding to the type; determining, according to the dimension information, a lexicon corresponding to the dimension information; and displaying, in a default candidate option area of the input method, at least one candidate word that is in the lexicon and meets a preset condition.
