Publication number: 20160155109Abstract: Systems and methods for conducting convenient and secure mobile transactions between a payment terminal and a mobile device, e.g., in a fueling environment, are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the payment terminal and the mobile device conduct a mutual authentication process that, if successful, produces a session key which can be used to encrypt sensitive data to be exchanged between the payment terminal and the mobile device. Payment and loyalty information can be securely communicated from the mobile device to the payment terminal using the session key. This can be done automatically, without waiting for the user to initiate a transaction, to shorten the overall transaction time. The transaction can also be completed without any user interaction with the mobile device, increasing the user's convenience since the mobile device can be left in the user's pocket, purse, vehicle, etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2016Publication date: June 2, 2016Inventors: Weiming Tang, James M. Brewer

Patent number: 7636840Abstract: A method and system for secure communication and control in a fueling environment. In one aspect, the fueling environment with secure communication comprises a fuel dispenser and at least one node communicable coupled with the fuel dispenser. The fuel dispenser is operable to generate a first public key and a first private key associated with the fuel dispenser and publish the first public key within the fueling environment. The fuel dispenser is further operable to authenticate a particular one of the nodes using, at least in part, a second public key associated with the particular node and the first public and the first private keys. The fuel dispenser may then dynamically generate a run-time symmetric key using, at least in part, the first private key and the second public key and communicate data associated with the fueling environment to the authenticated node, with the data encrypted using the symmetric key.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2005Date of Patent: December 22, 2009Assignee: Dresser, Inc.Inventor: Weiming Tang

Publication number: 20090103725Abstract: This disclosure provides various embodiments of systems and methods for secure communications. In one aspect, the system includes a secure payment module (SPM) in a fuel dispenser and a point-of-sate (POS) system. The POS system stores a public key certificate uniquely identifying the SPM and is configured to dynamically generate a first session key. The POS system encrypts the first session key with a public key associated with the public key certificate, and transmits the encrypted first session key to the SPM. The SPM, which stores a private key associated with the public key certificate, is configured to receive and decrypt the first session key. The SPM is further configured to receive a set of magnetic card data from a card reader, encrypt the set of magnetic card data with the first session key, and transmit the encrypted set of magnetic card data to the POS system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2007Publication date: April 23, 2009Inventors: Weiming TANG, Timothy Martin Weston

Publication number: 20040010711Abstract: A method and system for secure communication and control in a fueling environment. In one aspect of the present invention, user data is received at a first node associated with a fuel dispenser, encrypted using a public cryptography key, and transmitted to a second node. The second node decrypts the encrypted user data using a private cryptography key associated with the public cryptography key. In another aspect of the present invention, a first message is received at a first node. The first node generates pseudo-random data in response to the first message, encrypts the pseudo-random data using a public cryptography key, and transmits the encrypted pseudo-random data to a second node. The second node decrypts the data using a private cryptography key and transmits the decrypted data to the first node. The first node validates the decrypted data, and processes the first message if the data is valid.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2002Publication date: January 15, 2004Inventors: Weiming Tang, Steve Mixon

Patent number: 6613257Abstract: A process for making load limiting yarn comprising making block copolymer and then spinning the block copolymer into yarn. The process employs a twin screw extruder and comprises (A) forwarding aromatic polyester melt to an injection position in a twin screw extruder, (B) injecting lactone monomer into the molten aromatic polyester, (C) dispersing the monomer into the aromatic polyester melt so that a uniform mixture forms in less than about thirty seconds, and (D) reacting the uniform mixture resulting from step (C) at a temperature from about 250° C. to from a block copolymer. Steps (A) through (D) occur in less than about four minutes residence time in the twin screw extruder. The process is advantageous because high IV starting aromatic polyester can be used and the short reaction time at high temperature results in block copolymer with minimum transesterification, a high melting point, and a high melt viscosity.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2000Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.Inventors: Weiming Tang, Frank Mares, Robert Clark Morgan

Patent number: 6492022Abstract: The present invention provides load leveling and impact energy absorption webbing comprising warp yarn. If the webbing is used in seat belts, the webbing provides load leveling behavior from about 450 pounds (about 2,000 Newtons) to about 1,800 pounds (about 8,000 Newtons) in vehicle collision. The yarn has a force-displacement profile such that: (a) when the yarn is subjected to an initial barrier stress of from about 0.2 gram/denier to less than or equal to about 1.4 grams/denier, the yarn elongates to less than 3 percent and the initial modulus ranges from about 20 grams/denier to about 150 grams/denier; (b) upon subjecting the yarn to greater than the initial barrier stress and less than or equal to 1.8 grams/denier, the yarn elongates further to at least about 10 percent and the energy absorbed from 0 to the elongation at 1.8 grams/denier is at least about 0.0008 Joule/denier·meter; and (c) upon subjecting the yarn to greater than 1.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2001Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: AlliedSignal Inc.Inventors: Weiming Tang, Frank Mares, Robert Clark Morgan
