Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for picking-up and opening in the shape of elongate bags for automatic packing of cylindrical articles, preferably can lids. The method is charaterized by picking-up essentially flattened packages from a package magazine by means of pick-up means, opening the individual package by application thereon, at least in the area of the opening-mouth end of bags, of surface-holding means to opposite sides of the package and thereafter moving said means away from the package and then moving said means apart whereby the package mouth is distended.

Abstract: The present invention relates to packages for stacked can lids, a method of producing such packages, devices for implementing said method, devices for automated unpacking of the above nature and a system for packing and unpacking can lids. The packages are formed with an open end, which is closed in that the bag end, when in unfolded condition, is compressed and is provided with fastening means retaining said closed condition. In addition, the closing device closes the open package end by compressing the bag end in the unfolding condition and in that fastening means are applied retaining said closed condition, and the unpacking device causes relative movement of the packages and the can lids contained therein in such a manner that the can lids are pressed against the package end closed by means of said fastening means.

Abstract: Substantially cylindrical items are stacked in layers on a pallet. One or more sheets of paper, foil, or webbing is laid out on and around the items in a pattern of loops in such a way that the weight of the items themselves acting on the sheet locks the items in place on the pallet, with no need for the sheet to be attached to the pallet. A pick-up arrangement is provided for fetching the items from a supply area, and then placing them in layers onto the pallet. The tension in the paper sheet is controlled to optimize the locking effect while reducing the risk of over-tensioning.
