Patent number: 11947516Abstract: The updating of a definition layer or schema for a large distributed database can be accomplished using a plurality of data store tiers. A distributed database can be made up of many individual data stores, and these data stores can be allocated across a set of tiers based on business logic or other allocation criteria. The update can be applied sequentially to the individual tiers, such that only data stores for a single tier are being updated at any given time. This can help to minimize downtime for the database as a whole, and can help to minimize problems that may result from an unsuccessful update. Such an approach can also allow for simplified error detection and rollback, as well as providing control over a rate at which the update is applied to the various data stores of the distributed database.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2018Date of Patent: April 2, 2024Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ankit Kumar, Alazel Acheson, Jasmeet Chhabra, Luke Edward Kennedy, Daniel Stephen Popick, Weixun Wang

Patent number: 10574699Abstract: A load balancing service receives a request from a customer to configure a load balancer for distributing incoming requests to one or more computing resources of the customer. The load balancing service uses configuration information specified in the request to configure the load balancer such that the load balancer, in response to an incoming request, can determine whether the incoming request satisfies a set of request processing rules usable to determine whether the request is to be transmitted to any computing resource of the one or more computing resources. The load balancer transmits the incoming request to a computing resource of the customer as a result of the rules being satisfied.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2015Date of Patent: February 25, 2020Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Graeme David Baer, Bradford Taylor Lyman, Weixun Wang, Dmitry Frenkel, Gregory Branchek Roth

Publication number: 20100223237Abstract: A method, information processing system, and computer program storage product store data in an information processing system. Uncompressed data is received and the uncompressed data is divided into a series of vectors. A sequence of profitable bitmask patterns is identified for the vectors that maximizes compression efficiency while minimizes decompression penalty. Matching patterns are created using multiple bit masks based on a set of maximum values of the frequency distribution of the vectors. A dictionary is built based upon the set of maximum values in the frequency distribution and a bit mask savings which is a number of bits reduced using each of the multiple bit masks. Each of the vectors is compressed using the dictionary and the matching patterns with having high bit mask savings. The compressed vectors are stored into memory. Also, an efficient placement is developed to enable parallel decompression of the compressed codes.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2008Publication date: September 2, 2010Applicant: University of Florida Research Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Prabhat Mishra, Seok-Won Seong, Kanad Basu, Weixun Wang, Xiaoke Qin, Chetan Murthy

Patent number: 7087896Abstract: Relative quantitative information about components of chemical or biological samples can be obtained from mass spectra by normalizing the spectra to yield peak intensity values that accurately reflect concentrations of the responsible species. A normalization factor is computed from peak intensities of those inherent components whose concentration remains constant across a series of samples. Relative concentrations of a component occurring in different samples can be estimated from the normalized peak intensities. Unlike conventional methods, internal standards or additional reagents are not required. The methods are particularly useful for differential phenotyping in proteomics and metabolomics research, in which molecules varying in concentration across samples are identified. These identified species may serve as biological markers for disease or response to therapy.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2004Date of Patent: August 8, 2006Assignee: PPD Biomarker Discovery Sciences, LLCInventors: Christopher H. Becker, Curtis A. Hastings, Scott M. Norton, Sushmita Mimi Roy, Weixun Wang, Haihong Zhou, Thomas Andrew Shaler, Praveen Kumar, Markus Anderle, Hua Lin
