  • Patent number: 10935398
Abstract: Systems and methods for sensing changes in an optical sensing fibre, principally for detecting changes in strain. A plurality of optical probe pulses at different optical frequencies (f1, f2, . . . fn) spaced by ?f are transmitted into the sensing fibre. Light backscattered from the optical sensing fibre may be mixed with delayed backscatter frequency shifted by ?f+fm where fm is a heterodyne frequency. The backscattered or mixed light may be detected to determine changes in the sensing fibre. ?f may be chosen to optimise performance.

  • Patent number: 7418171
Abstract: A method and device for sensing spatial variations and/or temperature variations in the locality of a fiber optic cable 1 is disclosed, wherein a broadband light source 47 is used to shine incident light onto a series of fiber Bragg gratings contained within zones A, B and C. Each zone contains a plurality of fiber Bragg gratings, the plurality of fiber Bragg gratings in any one zone having a substantially identical grating period, and the fiber Bragg gratings in the respective zones having different grating periods. The reflected light from each fiber Bragg grating is returned back down the fiber optic cable 1 and redirected via a 2×1 coupler 51 to a wavelength detection system 53 and a personal computer 63. The combination of wavelength detection system 53 and personal computer 63 allow analysis of the reflected light patterns, as well as providing a user interface which enables detection of the occurrence of a spatial and/or a temperature variation.

  • Patent number: 6438332
Abstract: An imaging system for effecting electrostatic printing of an image, wherein the imaging system includes at least one contact electrostatic printing engine operable in a novel fashion upon a copy substrate, for imaging and development of a latent image representative of the image, and subsequent transfer of the developed image to the copy substrate. The developed image is created by separating and selectively transferring portions of a high solids content secondary toner cake layer in correspondence with the image and non-image regions of the latent image. A toner cake layer delivery apparatus draws from a supply of high solids content liquid developing material to form a primary toner cake layer on a receiving surface of a receiving member. The primary toner cake layer is subject to uniform charging to a first polarity followed by an induced charge of a second, opposing polarity to a selectable depth.

  • Patent number: 6341208
Abstract: The efficient contact transfer of liquid toner images is obtained by using an absorbent coating material over an image bearing member. The absorbent coating material absorbs carrier fluid from a developed image. By absorbing carrier fluid from the developed image the internal cohesiveness of the image increases and the adhesion of the image to the next substrate increases.

  • Patent number: 6309786
Abstract: The methods and systems for efficiently transferring images from an image bearing member include placing a release layer over the image bearing member before placing the toner layer over the release layer. The release layer reduces the adhesiveness of the toner layer to the image bearing member and, therefore, promotes efficient transfer to another substrate without applying heat. Release layer materials include, for example, a clear toner layer, a clear fluid layer and a wax layer.
