  • Patent number: 4536801
Abstract: A video data compression system and method for use in minimizing the amount of data necessary to store and recall a black and white video image. An image is obtained by vertically scanning a selected document. The image is then represented by a series of consecutive vertical scans identifying particular sections or cells of the image as black or white. A plurality of consecutive scans are then temporarily stored and analyzed horizontally. Analysis circuitry is utilized to identify certain consecutive black or white sections of the image, repetitions of previous sections of the image or repetitions of certain selectable patterns within the image. The coded output of the analysis circuitry is then stored and may be utilized to reconstruct the image.

  • Patent number: 4170419
Abstract: The specification discloses an optical web inspection system for detecting imperfections in a web having a longitudinal axis and moving in a plane across an inspection area. Radiation means is disposed above the plane of the web and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the web for directing radiant energy on the web at the inspection area. A plurality of sensors are mounted transverse to the longitudinal axis of the web and above the inspection area for receiving reflected radiation from successive transverse portions of the web passing across the inspection area. The plurality of sensors generate electrical output signals representing the intensity of the reflected radiation from the successive transverse portions of the web. Circuitry for periodically summing the electrical output signals from selected ones of the sensors is provided to generate a summation signal representative of the sum of reflected radiation from selected discrete segments of a plurality of the transverse portions of the web.

  • Patent number: 4124285
Abstract: As textile fabric is spread from a roll onto a cutting table, in stacked layers, the cutting pattern is selectively projected by the apparatus of the invention onto the unrolled fabric wherever a fabric flaw is known to exist to enable the operator to determine, prior to attaching a corresponding paper pattern to the spread fabric, whether or not the flaw will otherwise be present in an area to be cut out according to the pattern. The pattern projecting apparatus is mechanically and electronically coordinated with the fabric spreading apparatus and as the projecting apparatus scans across the width of the unrolled fabric, the projected image appears to the operator to be stationary on the fabric and is properly located longitudinally and transversely on the fabric with respect to the pattern which is ultimately to be cut out.
