  • Publication number: 20060040172
Abstract: A battery housing unit with a releasable cover for minimizing mis-alignment of a battery housed therein during high impact loads. The battery unit includes a battery holder having retention members biased towards one another that receive a battery. The retention members engage stop ribs projecting from the cover. The cover fits over the retention members of the battery holder and to a base of the housing unit. The retention members and stop ribs are engaged when high impact loads are delivered to the housing unit and the battery is urged against the biasing nature of the retention members. Movement and mis-alignment of the battery is thus minimized and high impact loads are re-distributed throughout the cover. Detents may be provided on each retention member for engaging a corresponding cavity provided on each stop rib. The detents and cavities interlock the retention members and stop ribs together upon high impact. In this manner, movement and mis-alignment of the battery is also minimized.

  • Publication number: 20050275374
Abstract: A multiple cell battery charger configured in a parallel topology provides constant current charging. The multiple cell battery charger requires fewer active components than known serial battery chargers, while at the same time preventing a thermal runaway condition. The multiple cell battery charger in accordance with the present invention is a constant voltage constant current battery charger that includes a regulator for providing a regulated source of direct current (DC) voltage to the battery cells to be charged. The battery charger also includes a pair of battery terminals coupled in series with a switching device, such as a field effect transistor (FET) and optionally a battery cell charging current sensing element, forming a charging circuit. In a charging mode, the serially connected FET conducts, thus enabling the battery cell to be charged. The FETs are controlled by a microprocessor that monitors the battery cell voltage and cell charging current and optionally the cell temperature.

  • Publication number: 20050060272
Abstract: An embedded system program code reduction method and system is proposed, which is designed for use to scale down the total amount of program code that is to be burned into an embedded system for the purpose of reducing the embedded system's memory requirement and thereby increasing the embedded system's performance. The proposed method and system is characterized by that the program code loaded into the embedded system only includes bytecode-based application programs (rather than source code based application programs), those essential objects that are required by these application programs during runtime, and the runtime environment from the virtual machine, while excluding the complier of the virtual machine. This feature allows the embedded system to have a reduced memory requirement and a higher system performance.

  • Patent number: 6707903
Abstract: An automated method for servicing a plurality of work items within committed times. A workflow including two or more work activities is assigned for each of the plurality of work items and a commitment is assigned either to each workflow or to each work item in each workflow. Queued work items are automatically assigned to a next available agent based on an activity state. A short-term predictor provides early detection of work items that are at risk of failing to meet their commitments. A long-term predictor detects backlogs of work items where excessive delays in queue are likely to put work items at risk of failing to meet their commitments. An activity's state can also cause additional reserve and backup agents to be assigned to it, to service work items from its queue before their commitments are missed.
