  • Publication number: 20050159118
Abstract: It has now been found that in some transmitter implementations which transmit multiple code channels, for example CDMA transmitters, the observed power for each code channel at the output relative to the other code channels is dependent upon the total transmit power due to non-linearities in the transmitter. Methods and apparatus are provided which use pre-set digital gains or digital gain adjustments to compensate for the non-linearities as a function of total transmit power such that at the output, the desired relative powers are observed.

  • Publication number: 20050122930
Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling unsolicited traffic are disclosed herein. The apparatus and method can be applied to wireless communication networks such as CDMA2000, UMTS, GPRS and the like so that traffic which is not solicited by wireless communication devices operating on those networks is not sent over the air needlessly. The present application provides techniques to block unsolicited traffic based on the identity of a user (for example based on International Mobile Station Identity (IMSI), Network Access Identifier (NAI), Mobile Station Internet Services Digital Network Number (MSISDN), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Universal Resource Locator (url)) as opposed to techniques that are based on a session or IP address, such as a traditional firewall. In accordance to this application, user identity based techniques are applied to block unsolicited traffic whenever a user has established a data session.

  • Publication number: 20050059397
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting a wireless communication network based on quality of service criteria associated with an application are disclosed. In one illustrative example, one of several different software applications of a mobile communication device is executed. The software application may be, for example, an e-mail application, an Internet data application, a voice-over-IP application, a video player application, an audio player application, or a video game application. Each software application is associated with different quality of service (QoS) criteria for data communications through a wireless network. The quality of service criteria may include, for example, a bandwidth criterion, a delay criterion, a delay variation criterion, and a data loss criterion. A scanning operation is performed to identify a plurality of a wireless networks available in a coverage area of the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20050009939
Abstract: There is described an isocyanate-based polymer foam having improved anti-yellowing properties. The foam produced from a formulation comprising an isocyanate, a blowing agent, a first active hydrogen-containing compound and a second active hydrogen-containing compound different than the first active hydrogen-containing compound. The second active hydrogen-containing compound comprises an active hydrogen-containing phosphite compound. A process for producing such a foam is also described.

  • Publication number: 20040266393
Abstract: A method of system access from a wireless device to a wireless network, the network having a plurality of base stations includes the steps of: selecting at least one reverse link cost metric from a list of predetermined reverse link cost metrics; determining a reverse link cost according to the selected at least one reverse link cost metric; selecting a candidate base station from the plurality of base stations; sending a probe signal at the reverse link cost to the candidate base station; waiting for a response from the candidate base station within a timeout period; and repeating steps until timeout, or until the condition that a response is received from at least one candidate base station so that at least one candidate base station can be used to provide system access from the wireless device to the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20040224694
Abstract: A method and system of reachability indication between a wireless device and at least one push server, the method comprising the steps of: sending device status information from the wireless device to the at least one push server; and receiving the status information at the at least one push server; wherein the at least one push server is enabled to selectively start and stop serving the wireless device on the basis of the status information. The method further comprises sending status information to a packet data serving node that stores a list of push servers associated with a wireless device, and having the packet data serving node forward the status information to the push server. The system and method further includes selectively starting and stopping the serving of the wireless device by the push server during a voice call.

  • Publication number: 20040192371
Abstract: A method and system of controlling transmit power of a forward link signal between a basestation and a mobile device in a communications network, the method comprising the steps of: sending a first signal from the basestation to the mobile device, the first signal having a first signal transmit power; receiving the first signal at the mobile device; measuring the first signal for a received signal to noise ratio at the mobile device; sending a second signal from the mobile device to the basestation, the second signal containing information about the received signal to noise ratio; and setting the transmit power of the forward link signal based on the received signal to noise ratio information and the first signal transmit power, whereby if the received signal to noise ratio is high the setting step sets the transmit power of the forward link signal lower, and if the received signal to noise ratio is low the setting step sets the transmit power of the forward link signal higher.

  • Patent number: 6598189
Abstract: A method of determining the actual transmission rate in a variable transmission rate communication system is provided, using error detection metrics. The received symbols are decoded assuming each possible rate, and then re-encoded to determine a symbol error rate for each possible rate. The possible transmission rates are then narrowed down using a simple measure of the likelihood of error, such as the CRC status determined for each rate. The symbol error rates are compared to either make a confident decision as to the actual transmission rate or to erase the frame. Rather than compare the values of the symbol error rates with predetermined thresholds, the method compares the differences between the symbol error rates for each possible rate with predetermined thresholds. This results in fewer erasures, even if the symbol error rates are low due to high signal to noise ratios.
