    Abstract: An audio communications host device has a communications network interface, digitizing circuitry, and a headphone jack. A demultiplexer has an input coupled to receive a signal from a pin of the headphone jack, and multiple outputs coupled to inputs of the digitizing circuitry, respectively. An uplink audio processor receives digitized microphone signals from multiple outputs of the digitizing circuitry, and in response delivers an uplink signal to the communications network interface. The uplink signal contains audio from one or more of the digitized microphone signals. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Audio functionality may be retained by simultaneously converting a unidirectional line into a bidirectional line using hybrids.

    Abstract: Electronic devices and accessories such as headsets are provided. An accessory may include speakers and active noise cancellation circuitry. Microphones may be used to pick up ambient noise signals for implementing noise cancellation for the speakers. The accessory may also include a voice microphone and an ambient noise microphone that picks up ambient noise signals for implementing noise cancellation for the voice microphone. A user input interface may gather user input. Ultrasonic tone generators may transmit data between the device and accessory. The electronic device and accessory may be connected to each other by audio connectors. Hybrid circuits that each include a summer and a transconductance amplifier may be selectively switched into or out of use. When switched into use, paths between the device and accessory can support bidirectional communications such as communications involving the simultaneous flow of analog audio and microphone signals in opposite directions.

    Abstract: A multiple path angle modulator includes a closed secondary loop added to a main control loop to automatically adjust a scaling factor related to high frequency gain. The main control loop is configured as a primary path to process the low frequency portion of the angle modulation signal, and the secondary loop is configured as an auxiliary path to process the high frequency portions of the angle modulation signal. The secondary loop senses calibration information and uses it to continuously calibrate the gain within the modulation loop in real time while the system performs its primary operation, thereby eliminating the need for a system shut down or calibration specific timing, such as a lapse time, to balance the modulation paths. Calibration is continuously performed as a background process. The angle modulator is applicable to all modulation type systems.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining a relationship between an input signal frequency and a reference signal frequency is envisioned. The system derives a plurality of internal reference signals from the reference signal. The internal reference signals are provided to a level detection circuit which in turn samples the input signal a number of times within a period of time. Values associated with these samples are stored, as is one value of a sample from a previous period. The stored samples are correlated, and a relationship between the input signal frequency and the reference signal frequency is derived.
