Patent number: 8448746Abstract: A roofer's cushion comprising a tapered block of compliant material, such as closed-cell expanded polystyrene, polyurethane of polyethylene. The block is tapered to compensate to at least some degree to the slope of a roof. A pair of shallow elongate and parallel depressions are formed in the top surface of the block and to accommodate a roofer's knees and lower legs comfortably therein. Additional receptacles of various sizes and locations are provided for tools and materials. A hold-down strap between the depressions uses hook and loop fastener technology to permit a board to be secured to and between two such roofer's cushions to form a ridge structure.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2010Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Inventor: Wendell Davis, Jr.

Patent number: 6219805Abstract: A method and system for assessing risks associated with software systems include the steps of dynamically retrieving, from a plurality of external database systems, a set of risk factor data associated with the components of the software systems, and determining risk values of the components, respectively, based on a predefined risk model and the retrieved risk factor data. The retrieved risk factor data represents a multi-dimensional view of the potential risks associated with the components, and may include two or more of code complexities, architectural relationships, fault histories, development activities, designer profiles, component contention, and/or usage profiles of the software components. The risk model includes a set of risk relations that associate the retrieved risk factor data with the risk values of the components. The risk relations may be defined by correlating historical risk factor data with actual risk measurements of the components using statistical or other quantitative methods.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1998Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Wendell Davis Jones, Stephen J. Patent number: 6094807Abstract: A lacing mandrel for use when lacing a stator has an elongate shaft with an enlarged head, or sizing plug, proximate an upper end. The sizing plug permits an operator to easily and readily determine whether the bore of the stator is obstructed, both before and after the lacing operation. The mandrel employs an annular slip ring, having a plurality of radially extending ribs, during the lacing operation. Each radially extending rib extends into a corresponding channel of the stator, which channel opens into a corresponding slot of the stator. The annular slip ring rotates with the stator during the lacing operation, such that each rib remains positioned in its corresponding channel. Thus, slot liners, or wedges, utilized on the stator are retained in their respective slots during the lacing operation, and are not forced out by the lacing needles so as to obstruct the stator bore.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Wendell Davis, Phyllis Stinecipher

Patent number: 5568058Abstract: An automatic motor tester runs performance and quality control checks on newly assembled motors. The motor tester includes a vertical support, contacts contained within a housing which is mounted to the vertical support so as to be movable horizontally and vertically relative to the vertical support, and a controller operatively connected to the contacts to send signals to and receive signals from the motor for motor testing. The motor is positioned above a lifter which is operable to lift the motor so as to automatically electrically connect the motor contacts to the test contacts so that the test operator does not handle electrical leads.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1994Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: Wendell Davis

Patent number: 5566464Abstract: A shaft extension gage is provided at the rotor/rotor shaft insertion station in an electric motor production line. The gage includes a locating plate above which a partially assembled electric motor is positioned, a rotor shaft receiving assembly defining a chamber into which the rotor shaft is inserted, an indicator secured to the rotor shaft receiving assembly which measures shaft extension, and a display which the operator may read to determine if the shaft extension is within limits. The gage allows an operator to measure and correct both the rotor shaft's extension and end play without removing the motor from the assembly line and before the motor's end shields are attached to the motor shell to secure the rotor and rotor shaft in the shell. The gage may also be used to determine if the rotor shaft diameter is too large.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1994Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: Wendell Davis
