Patent number: 9857077Abstract: A head assembly for a pulverized coal nozzle includes removeable wear-resistant inserts having vanes. The vanes may be flat or curved to direct a stream of air and pulverized solid fuel particles from the inlet port toward the outlet port. The curved vanes curve in two dimensions to evenly distribute the stream of air and pulverized solid fuel away from the outer surfaces reducing wear and corrosion. The pipe elbow has a removable cover that allows for easy access. The vanes are attached to a wear-resistant replaceable liner thus allowing them to be easily removed and replaced. The wear-resistant liner may be made from several parts for ease of removal and replacement.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2015Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Assignee: GENERAL ELECTRIC TECHNOLOGY GMBHInventors: Daniel J. Adam, Oliver G. Briggs, Thomas J. Campanelli, Paul M. Colson, Christopher D. Curl, Dai Q. Dau, Wendell H. Mills

Patent number: 9388982Abstract: A fuel nozzle assembly including a conduit defining a fuel inlet and a fuel outlet and being operable to convey a fuel stream comprising a solid particulate fuel entrained in a fluid. The conduit has a flow area defined by an interior surface of the conduit. A first flow deflector and a second flow deflector extend inwardly from the interior surface. The first flow deflector and the second flow deflector are positioned to disrupt a velocity profile of the flow stream established upstream of the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2011Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: ALSTOM TECHNOLOGY LTDInventors: Richard E. Patent number: 9151493Abstract: A head assembly 52,152 for a pulverized coal nozzle includes a turning vane 54 or a curved vane 154 disposed within a pipe elbow. The vanes 54,154 are angled relative to the inlet port and the outlet port of the pipe elbow to redirect a stream of air and pulverized solid fuel particles from the inlet port 60,160 toward the outlet port 62,162. The coal rope-breaking vane 56 is pivotable about an axis to adjust an angle of the vanes relative to a stream of air and pulverized solid fuel particles from the inlet port 60,160. An adjustment bar 66 may connect to the vanes 56 and extend outward through the pipe elbow to allow the vanes 56 to be adjusted while the pulverized solid fuel particles flow through the head assembly 52. The pipe elbow may further include inspection ports 68,168 and a removable cover 70,170. The vanes may be attached to the removable cover 70,170 thus allowing them to be easily removed and replaced.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2009Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: ALSTOM Technology LtdInventors: Daniel J. Publication number: 20030055586Abstract: A regularization model for electrical resistance mapping of a combustion vessel such as, for example, a furnace 12 which combusts a fossil fuel, stabilizes the calculation of resistivities &rgr; from measured voltages u by incorporating third level and/or second level error minimization terms into the model. The third level error minimization term represents a third difference of resistivity ∇x3&rgr;x. The second level error minimization term represents a second difference of resistivity ∇2&rgr;x. The third level and second level error minimization terms are deliberately defined to approximate local parabolic and linear behavior. A regularization constant &ggr; is used to adjust the weight afforded the third level and/or second level error minimization terms. A system computer 62 uses numerical methods to solve the regularization model for values of resistivity &rgr; that result in a pre-established acceptable level of error E.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 21, 2001Publication date: March 20, 2003Applicant: ALSTOM POWER N.V.Inventor: Wendell H.
