Each digital file includes information for a machine-readable code, a forensic element, and parameters for time, date, and location for the physical item. The system includes a scanner for scanning the machine-readable code of an item presented for verification, and an analyzer for analyzing the forensic element of the item presented for verification. A controller is in communication with the database, the scanner, and the analyzer.
