The first board has a first substrate with a first plurality of sensing elements and a second plurality of sensing elements. A first plurality of conductive trace connects the first plurality of sensing elements along a first axis. A dielectric material is formed on the first plurality of sensing elements and on the first plurality of conductive traces. The second board has a second substrate and a second plurality of conductive traces that connects the second plurality of sensing elements along a second axis.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to recognize a button gesture on a sensing device. The method may include detecting a presence of a conductive object on a sensing device, having a plurality of non-linearly disposed sensor elements, which form an outer and an inner sensing area, and recognizing a button operation on the sensing device when the presence of the conductive object is detected on the inner sensing area of the sensing device.
