  • Publication number: 20080133766
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for streaming media to a plurality of adaptive client devices. In one aspect there is provided a method of providing a media stream over data channel of a best effort transmission network that includes a wireless path to a plurality of client devices. In another aspect there is provided a method of encoding a stream of data into chunks, whereby the chunks are obtained by determining a break point between them that corresponds to a silence point. In another aspect, there is provided a method for creating a library of encoded media for a media stream and linking the library to a plurality of cell phone devices.

  • Patent number: 7024464
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically managing content provided to a mobile device. In one embodiment, the present invention begins by retrieving information from a network. In one embodiment the information is web-based content, and the network is the Internet. The present method and system then dynamically assesses the information which was retrieved from the network. In particular, in one embodiment, the present invention assesses the information by determining the application to which the information corresponds. Next, the present embodiment selectively filters the information such that desired information is compiled. After the selective filtering process, the present embodiment forwards the desired information to the mobile device. In so doing, the present embodiment provides an approach which dynamically manages the content of information so as to efficiently, responsively, and inexpensively provide a mobile device user with desired information.

  • Publication number: 20060018288
Abstract: A wireless communication system configured for the efficient allocation of resources is provided. The wireless communication system can include a transmit system having a first set of one or more antennas each configured to transmit a data signal over a region to a receive system having a second set of two or more antennas each configured to receive the transmitted data signal. The transmit system can be configured to adjust a transmission parameter of a data signal based on a level of signal fading in the region to sustain a target bit rate, adjust a power and a bit rate at which a data signal is transmitted based on the level of signal fading in the region and select a subset of antennas within the first set of antennas to be used to transmit a data signal based on the level of signal fading in the region.

  • Publication number: 20040215526
Abstract: A method, system, and computer-readable medium is described for providing users of wireless mobile phones and other wireless devices with the ability to participate in e-commerce transactions, such as by using a message-based mechanism that exchanges information over a wireless telephone network (e.g., SMS messages). The e-commerce transactions can have a variety of types, including traditional and Dutch auctions. Sellers of items may also be provided various functionality, such as the ability to define and execute sales campaigns for their items and to monitor the progress of such sales campaigns. This abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an abstract, and it is submitted with the intention that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.

  • Patent number: 6421734
Abstract: Active networking techniques enable intermediate systems to determine whether data in a packet which is traversing the system is compressed, encrypted or otherwise dynamically processed. Based on this determination, the dynamic processing resources at the intermediate system are invoked or not. Thus, dynamic processing resources can be conserved. Active networking data is placed in packets flowing between end systems. The end system sending these packets may not know whether there are intermediate systems between it and the other end system that require knowledge about compressed data in the packet. It places the active networking data in packets so that any intermediate systems that can use knowledge of which packets contain compressed data may use the active networking data to make the determination.

  • Patent number: 6393474
Abstract: A system for providing policy management in a network that includes nodes operating in multiple protocol layers and having enforcement functions. Multiple network devices, such as routers, remote access equipment, switches, repeaters and network cards, and end system processes having security functions are configured to contribute to implementation of policy enforcement in the network. By distributing policy enforcement functionality to a variety of network devices and end systems, a pervasive policy management system is implemented. The policy management system includes a policy implementation component that accepts policy, i.e. instructions or rules, that define how the network device should behave when confronted with a particular situation.

  • Patent number: 6216158
Abstract: Controlling network services using palm sized computers is described. A program on the palm sized computer is used to access a registry of network services that may be available. The registry includes descriptions for various services. Each description includes at least a reference to program code that can be downloaded to the palm sized computer. Executing this program causes the palm sized computer to issue commands directly to the specific network services needed. In some cases, these network services include application services for running desktop applications that the palm sized computer could not execute.
