  • Publication number: 20070284548
Abstract: A particle therapy system is provided. The particle therapy system includes a rotatable gantry being operable to generate a particle beam during operation and a measuring instrument for determining a position of the particle beam. The gantry is movable in the axial direction to correct a deviation in the position of the particle beam from an axial set-point position.

  • Publication number: 20070051904
Abstract: A gantry system for particle therapy system, therapy plan and radiation method for a particle therapy with such a gantry system is provided. The gantry system for a particle therapy system includes a particle beam. A first beam guiding device rotatable about an axis of rotation of the gantry guides the particle beam so that the particle beam strikes a treatment location at a gantry incidence direction. The gantry incidence direction deviates from the axis of rotation and is variable. A second beam guiding device guides the particle beam to a treatment location in a second direction.

  • Publication number: 20070029510
Abstract: The invention relates to a gantry system for a particle therapy facility, having a beam guidance gantry which has elements for beam guidance, and having a measurement gantry which has a device for beam monitoring. The measurement gantry and beam guidance gantry are thus of a mutually independent design and are, in particular, arranged in a mutually concentric manner. A gantry system of this kind is inter alia less susceptible to mechanical deviations during rotation of the beam guidance gantry.

  • Patent number: 6786868
Abstract: In a high resolution ultrasonic tomograph operating according to transmission, scattering and impulse-echo methods, comprising a container with an open top and including ultrasonic transducers arranged along the walls of the container, a coupling medium disposed in the container and a computer-based control and evaluation unit with a working memory, the control and evaluation unit is connected in a circuit with the ultrasonic transducers in such a way that the ultrasonic signal emitted from at least one ultrasonic transducer forms an ultrasonic impulse which is received by all the other transducers in parallel and is amplified, filtered and digitized to form electric signals which are stored in the working memory as a data set.

  • Patent number: 6626422
Abstract: A control valve including a plastic injection-molded wing body and a shaft having embossed projections thereon, said shaft being positively connected to said wing body, wherein the wing body has, in the direction of an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the shaft, a maximum dimension no greater than the diameter of the shaft, said shaft having the plastic of the wing body injected-molded completely around said shaft in the region of the projections. The control valve may, according to one embodiment, be adapted for use as an intake device for an internal combustion engine, and for use, e.g., as a resonant valve or a throttle valve.

  • Patent number: 6487434
Abstract: In a magnetic resonance tomograph having a continuous channel for inserting from one end a stretcher with a female patient lying thereon in a prone position during magnetic resonance mammography, the tomograph is provided with a manipulator by which instruments for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of such patients breasts can be introduced into the channel from the other end and positioned in relation to the breasts which are disposed in the isocenter of the magnetic resonance tomograph. The manipulator has a support arm with a recess for receiving the various instruments which can be installed and exchanged from the other, that is, the proximal end. The support arm with the recess can be pivoted horizontally and vertically about a fixed point located outside the recess and beyond the tip at the distal end of the manipulator adjacent to a breast of the patient.

  • Patent number: 6166452
Abstract: An igniter for igniting a reactive material has a conductor for conducting power and communication signals to and from the igniter. A controller is located within the igniter. The controller is preferably an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC). The controller has communication means for communicating with a master controller located remote from the igniter. The controller also has diagnostic means for comparing established parameters for components of the igniter to predetermined limits and sending fault warning messages and integrity status messages to the master control unit. The controller also further has means for receiving a unique igniter activation command from the master control unit and sending an activation signal to an igniter activation means that couples the energy stored in an energy storage capacitor to a heating member that ignites a reactive material.

  • Patent number: 4224613
Abstract: A warning system for a printing press to warn the operator upon the exceeding, or departure from, a desired set of running conditions which includes a plurality of remote condition transducers which, in the simplest form of the invention, are in the form of switches. Coupled to the transducers are respective signal generators each of which generates an acoustic signal which has a distinctive quality as compared to all of the other acoustic signals. A loudspeaker common to all of the signal generators is audible at the control station. The distinctiveness of the signal serves to promptly inform the operator which of the running conditions has been exceeded so that corrective action may be taken. In a second embodiment of the invention the transducers produce output control signals which vary in magnitude with the condition, and the corresponding acoustic signal generator produces a signal having a distinctive first quality when the control signal exceeds a threshold level.

  • Patent number: 4000693
Abstract: A safe access arrangement for a printing press having remotely located driven mechanisms normally enclosed by guards or covers and which are removable to provide access for observation, adjustment or servicing. Remote control modules are located under the respective access covers each module having a motor remote control switch and a shiftable interlock switch, the shiftable switch being automatically thrown from a normal position to a shifted position when the access cover is removed. Each shiftable switch includes a first contact for disabling the main switch of the press and a second contact for activating, or "enabling", operation of the associated motor remote control switch so that the motor may only be turned on by the remote control switch at the location of the open cover.
