  • Patent number: 4704056
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a device for clamping tools in the spindle of a machine tool, said device comprising a collet chuck located centrally in the spindle with clamping jaws at the forward end, a spring assembly to generate the necessary closing force and a mechanism overcoming the closing force to open the collet chuck. To avoid the supplying of pressure medium to the spindle and to be able to orient the spindle simply to change tools, the mechanism is located laterally next to the spindle in the spindle head and engages the collet chuck externally as well as an outer ring on the spindle. The outer ring has two notches for engagement of two noses for spindle orientation.

  • Patent number: 4700452
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a magazine, more particularly for milling and drilling machines, comprising a straight tool carrier (10) which has a row of separately swinging tool holding fixtures and which is hinged to the work table (6) so that it swings. For tool changes without additional tool changing means, according to the invention the tool carrier (10) is secured to the end of at least one swing arm (8) which is hinged to the work table so that it swings about a horizontal axis (9). As a result, the tool carrier (10), which can be turned about an axis which extends in the longitudinal direction thereof, can be swung from a home position, below the work table, into an upper, tool-exchange position.

  • Patent number: 4687088
Abstract: The object of the invention is a cubicle for machining centers, consisting of a front one or multipart face wall and stationary or multipart side walls (11, 12), which can be designed to be like sliding doors. In order to prevent damage to the side walls or the windows therein through a collision with a workpiece projecting sideways during the machining cycle or during set up, a part of the side walls (11, 12), according to the invention, is designed to swing sideways, so that it can yield way by a pre-determined distance upon impact by a workpiece. At least one emergency switch is installed in the movement range of these side wall parts, which switches off the forward drive of the workpiece table(s) (4) when it is activated.

  • Patent number: 4677718
Abstract: In a machine tool having a palette change-over device protected by a movable U-shaped hood, to prevent injury to the operator or accidental damage during movement of the hood the hood is provided with a probe and an automatic circuit breaker arranged to shut down at least the driving mechanism of the hood on contact with the operator or another foreign body in the path of movement of the hood.

  • Patent number: 4575291
Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a dividing apparatus or indexing attachment for a program controlled machine tool, comprising a housing (1) including clamping means (3, 4) for attachment to a machine part, a dividing spindle (5) mounted within the housing (1) and including a work holder (8, 9) and a clamping assembly (15), and a spindle drive means including a reduction gearing, in which for achieving fully automatic sequences of operation in the manufacture of various workpieces, an opto-electronic angle measuring unit (24) and a releasable clamping means (31 to 36) are associated with the dividing spindle (5), wherein the reduction gearing includes two cylindrical gears (29, 30) having parallel axes and jointly meshing with a pinion (27) mounted on the motor shaft and further includes two pinions (46, 47) mounted on the intermediate shafts (40, 41) of said cylindrical gears, the two latter pinions meshing with the spindle drive gear (10).

  • Patent number: 4529342
Abstract: The invention is directed to an indexing attachment for a numerically controlled milling machine, comprising an indexing spindle rotatably supported in the casing for receiving a workpiece chuck, a bottom plate for fixing the casing on a worktable, and clamping means for fixing the indexing spindle in the various indexing positions. The indexing attachment is to be of simple and inexpensive structure and intended to permit--without any drive means of its own--programme-controlled indexing operations and thus milling steps along five axes. To this end the indexing spindle (10) of the indexing attachment (8) is adapted to be coupled with a driver (4) mounted on a part (2) of the milling machine and to be driven by programme-controlled motions of the milling machine.

  • Patent number: 4356620
Abstract: A disk magazine particularly useful as a tool holder for a universal drilling and milling machine comprises a disk having a plurality of tool holders disposed at fixed intervals on the outer perimeter and a drive means for rotating the disk in steps corresponding to the spacing between the tool holders. The disk comprises a connected pair of spaced apart flat plates. In a preferred embodiment, at least one of the plates is an annular plate having recessed regions on its inner periphery and the drive means comprises a Geneva drive mechanism for engaging the recessed regions. This disk magazine can be conveniently mounted on a universal drilling and milling machine with the disk horizontal above the headstock.

  • Patent number: 4339962
Abstract: A switching device for variable speed gears in machine tools having an assembly which includes a plurality of axially disposed, rotatably-driven cam discs, each of which is associated with an electric microswitch. Non-rotatable spacers serve to position the cam discs. A spherical key bed clamp axially clamps the cam discs together while permitting rotation of individual ones thereof. A non-rotating indicating disc displays the present RPM or respective gear stage. A shock absorber in the individual gear trains between switching bars and their respective electric motors provides sufficient damping and cushioning to prevent a hard start-up impact when the motor is switched on or when a sliding gear block is engaged. The shock absorber may include an elastic linkage or an elastic spur gear in a toothed wheel gear reduction unit located between the motor drive shaft and the link shaft.
