  • Patent number: 7376858
Abstract: The objective is to reduce the downtime of a printing system in the printing industry. Provision is therefore made to supply the drive regulators (3) of a printing system (1) simultaneously with a plurality of clock signals. Each of the drive regulators (3) independently selects one of the clock signals for synchronization. In the event of failure of a signal source, the printing system is not interrupted but the drive regulators (3) switch automatically to the clock still present.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2005
Date of Patent: May 20, 2008
    Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Werner Agne, Werner Blumenstock, Jochen Schlinkert

  • Patent number: 6505084
Abstract: A memory-programmable controller used, in particular, in a larger automation system and a method for operation of a memory-programmable controller (S1-Sn). The memory programmable controller (S1-Sn) is linked to a central computer (R) of the automation system over a network (2). All of the user data (3), application programs (4), configuration data (5) and the operating systems (6) of the memory-programmable controller (S1-Sn) are stored on a central computer. However, only working copies of the data are stored in the memory of the memory-programmable controller (S1-Sn). In the case of a failure of the memory-programmable controller (S1-Sn) or components therein, the user data (3), application programs (4), configuration data (5) and/or the operating system (6) are loaded in the memory of the memory-programmable controller from a central computer (R) by way of the network (2). Because of this, updates to the operating system can be carried out centrally and very easily.

  • Publication number: 20020006790
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for remote maintenance and/or diagnosis of an automation system (2), which is provided with an electronic firewall (12). To access the automation system, for instance via the Internet from any computer connected to the Internet, it is proposed to transmit an e-mail message (16) to the automation system via a data transmission system (18) with a first transmit/receive device (3) which is disposed at the location of a remote user (1). To this end, an instruction (8) to be executed at the location of the automation system is packaged by an instruction encoder in the e-mail message to be transmitted. At the location of the automation system, a second transmit/receive device (5) is provided to receive the e-mail message sent by the remote user (1). The second transmit/receive device has an instruction decoder (11) to automatically identify the instruction in the e-mail message and forward the instruction to the application (6) for which the instruction is intended.

  • Publication number: 20010056484
Abstract: A system, method and control unit for generating a message, particularly an alarm message of a control unit of an automation system. Simplified use of existing transmission means is proposed for transmitting the message of a control unit as an e-mail message via an Intranet and/or the Internet to a predetermined receiving device. In accordance with the invention, the control unit enters a message identification individually assigned to each message in an identification field of the message. The receiving device after receipt of a message returns an acknowledgment to the control unit, which contains the identification associated with the underlying message as the acknowledgment identification. By comparing the acknowledgment identification contained in the acknowledgment with the message identification contained in the transmitted message, the acknowledgment can be uniquely assigned to the transmitted message.
