  • Patent number: 4609033
Abstract: In a process for compacting foundry mold making material, that is loosely heaped in a closed mold space over a pattern, the surface of the material is acted on by a compressed gas with a pressure of at the most 8 bar. This gas is caused to undergo expansion out of an inlet space through a valve in an opening at a gas flow rate of over 50 kg/sec and with a pressure increase rate of over 300 bar/sec, into the mold space. The maximum pressure in the inlet space or antichamber is 20 bar. An apparatus for use in the method is made up of a pressure vessel, a mold flask placed thereunder having a filling frame and a pattern plate. The opening cross section of the valve is 50 to 150% of the horizontal cross section of the mold flask and is opened in a short time of the order of milliseconds.

  • Patent number: 4275783
Abstract: A molding machine for fabricating boxless molds wherein the mold boxes or flasks for the mold halves are moved, upon arms of a turnstile or rotatable cross-shaped element, cyclically to various molding stations of the molding machine. Fabrication of a casting mold at the closing or assembly station is rendered possible in that, a support plate of a conveyor device for the further transport of the casting molds is structured as part of the closing or assembly station. An ejector punch, a support means for the mold boxes or flasks and an elevationally displaceable table are arranged such that a mold lower part and a mold upper part are successively ejected into the support plate for the purpose of forming the casting mold.

  • Patent number: 4254816
Abstract: An apparatus for fabricating boxless casting mold parts. During a first step the sand is pre-compacted in mold boxes or flasks by means of a pressure or compaction plate of a pressure or compaction device to form a casting mold part. Press or pressure punches are displaceably mounted in the pressure plate. By means of a pressurized fluid medium, introduced into a hollow chamber or space of the pressure or compaction device, the press or pressure punches are activated and, during a second step, cause a post-compaction of the casting mold part. There is thus produced an approximately uniform compaction of the casting mold part. The lower part of the pressure or compaction device is structured as the pressure or compaction plate serving for pre-compaction.

  • Patent number: 3955614
Abstract: A foundary molding machine which for the simultaneous separate production of two foundry mold parts possesses two mold units provided with a respective match plate support and a sand filling- and compaction station. Each of the mold units has operatively associated therewith a pivotal device incorporating pivotal arms pivotable about vertical shafts in a respective horizontal plane. The pivotal arms carry mold frames supported in mold frame holders which they pivot from the sand filling- and compaction station, while rotating the mold frame containing the mold lower part through 180.degree. about a horizontal axis, into a position wherein both mold parts are in superimposed position at an attachment or assembly station where both of the mold parts are deposited on top of one another onto a conveyor mechanism.
