Patent number: 4941707Abstract: A method and apparatus are proposed for sealing the gap between a rigid sliding roof and a fixed roof region of a motor car surrounding the same by means of a cavity seal element which is housed beneath the fixed roof region by a groove formed between the latter and a rail attached to the roof which exhibits mutually spaced perforations in its upper member. In order to obtain simply a predetermined groove height, a distance or spacing element, which faces the fixed roof region, and the foot part which is constructed as a clip, is let into at least two of the perforations.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1988Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Rolf Ohrle, Werner Herlemann

Patent number: 4805959Abstract: The cover of a rigid sliding roof is sealed against the solid roof region around it by means of a peripheral hollow chamber seal, a bead of this seal being only locally in contact with protrusions which are formed at the front of a rail fixing the hollow chamber seal. So that an adjustment procedure can be carried out in the case of a lack of pressure effect or in the case of too much pressure effect by means of tools, one appropriate to each case, each protrusion is aligned with and at a distance from a penetration which can be plastically deformed so that in each case the protrusion is moved towards or away from the penetration.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1987Date of Patent: February 21, 1989Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rolf Ohrle, Werner Herlemann, Jochen Parisch

Patent number: 4709959Abstract: Sliding and lifting roof for vehicles having a rigid cover, which in a closed position closes a roof opening in a fixed roof surface, and therefrom, can be selectively tilted upwardly so as to raise its rear edge above the fixed roof surface, or lowered and displaced below the fixed roof surface. A frame encircling at least part of the roof opening forms a rain gutter extending below both sides of the roof opening. Strip-shaped shield elements are attached at both sides of the cover, essentially perpendicular to the cover surface, and substantially flush with its lateral edges. The shield elements are flexible, at least in the area of their lower edges, and are fixedly connected with the cover along their upper edges. In the raised position of the cover, at least a major extent of the length of the shield elements will bear laterally against the lateral edges of the roof opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1985Date of Patent: December 1, 1987Assignees: Webasto-Werk W. Baier GmbH & Co., Daimler-Benz AGInventors: Jochen Paerisch, Werner Herlemann, Walter Schaetzler

Patent number: 4702518Abstract: Sliding and lifting roof for vehicles with a cover for closing an opening in a fixed roof surface, the cover being selectively liftable so as to raise its rear edge above the fixed roof surface or, after lowering of its rear edge, rearwardly slidable below the fixed roof surface. A sliding liner panel is provided that is slidable jointly with the cover and, at least partially, is also liftable together with the cover. For covering up of a gap between each lateral edge of the liftable liner panel part and a guide part which participates in the sliding movement but not in the lifting movement of the cover, there is provided a flexible screen. The screen is led around the lateral edge of the liftable liner panel part and is held taut in every position of the liner panel part.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1985Date of Patent: October 27, 1987Assignees: Webasto-Werk W. Baier GmbH & Co., Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Jochen Paerisch, Werner Herlemann, Gerhard Sweigart, Hans Jardin, Alfons Lutz

Patent number: 4667966Abstract: In order to be able to cover a large tolerance range with a sliding cover for a motor vehicle, which is sealed by way of a circumferential hollow chamber seal, the hollow chamber seal is provided with a bead which is supported only locally at the end face of a rail retaining the hollow chamber seal under a roof area. During the occurrence of excessively large, oversize tolerances, the hollow chamber seal can then enter into interstices formed between local raised portions of the end face when the deformation capability of the hollow chamber is exhausted.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1985Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rolf Oehrle, Werner Herlemann

Patent number: 4664439Abstract: Sliding and lifting roof for vehicles, having a rigid cover which in its closed position covers a roof opening in a fixed roof surface. The cover is mounted on guide rails extending in a direction parallel to the side edges of the roof opening, and can be selectively tilted so as to lift its rear edge above the fixed roof surface, or rearwardly slidably displaced below the fixed roof surface, after lowering of its rear end below the fixed roof surface. A vertically adjustable rain gutter is provided which is elevated when the cover is in its tilted and close positions, which rain gutter underlies the rear edge of the roof opening and, upon lowering, can be rearwardly displaced together with the cover. The rain gutter is connected with a tilting device which, when the cover is raised, causes the rain gutter to assume an inclined position such that the forward edge of the rain gutter forms a splashboard which projects upwardly above the rear edge of the roof opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1985Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Assignees: Webasto-Werk W. Baier GmbH & Co., Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Walter Schaetzler, Werner Herlemann, Horst Lux, Hans Benda
