Patent number: 10182024Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for dividing and merging online content sharing environments such as, for example, online chat rooms. An online content sharing environment may have a group of user profiles associated therewith, some subgroup of which may be exchanging message content within the online content sharing environment at any given time. If an amount of message data traffic being exchanged and/or a number of user profiles exchanging messages exceeds a corresponding threshold value, the online content sharing environment may be divided into two or more sub-environments. Respective sub-groups of user profiles may then be identified based on association criteria and associated with the various sub-environments.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2015Date of Patent: January 15, 2019Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Tan Shen Cliff Chung, Brian Ashley Garber, Samuel Scott Gigliotti, Thomas Werner Kuehnel, Pavneet Singh

Patent number: 10129761Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to managing and accessing a community Wi-Fi network. The community Wi-Fi network can include sharer computing devices in differing local networks that share respective network bandwidth capacities with consumer computing devices. Feedback information pertaining to network bandwidth capacity available at different geographic locations covered by the community Wi-Fi network can be collected and evaluated to enable generation of maps for visualizing coverage of the community Wi-Fi network. A consumer computing device can display a map that includes visual information pertaining to the geographic coverage of the community Wi-Fi network relative to a geographic location of the consumer computing device.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2017Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: David Neil MacDonald, Piyush Goyal, Saumaya Sharma, Shai Guday, Thomas Werner Kuehnel, Vikas Singh, Triptpal Singh Lamba, Brent Edward Ford, Jonathan Hathaway

Patent number: 9730073Abstract: Devices, methods, and systems for provisioning network credentials onto a device using audible commands. In some instances, the device is a headless device without a graphical user interface. The device may include a limited number of speech models and phrases pre-programmed onto the device to enable the device to query a user to enter network credentials and have a dialog type interface with the user using local speech recognition techniques. Once the network credentials are entered and the device connects to the user's network, the device may change modes and limit the local speech recognition techniques. In this respect, the device may send audio input to a more powerful remote device for processing.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2015Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventor: Thomas Werner Kuehnel

Patent number: 9537889Abstract: Embodiments control submission of crowdsourced data from a computing device to a cloud service. The cloud service receives a packet from the computing device having collected data and a single-use data tag associated therewith. The single-use data tag represents one of a threshold quantity of single-use data tags issued to the computing device. The cloud service validates the single-use data tag in the received packet by, for example, searching for the single-use data tag in a tag store maintained by the cloud service. The collected data from the received packet is stored by the cloud service based on the validation. After validation, the tag store is updated to prevent re-use of the single-use data tag. In some embodiments, the cloud service is a location service receiving crowdsourced beacon fingerprint data from a plurality of mobile computing devices.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2011Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Thomas Werner Kuehnel, Shai Guday

Patent number: 8155271Abstract: The present embodiments related to a device having a device element to which a high voltage can be applied. The device is provided with at least one additional conducting element which is disposed, embodied and connected in such a way that the element is assigned a defined potential value and a change to the electric field generated by the high voltage in the sense of a more favorable field distribution is effected by means of position, shape and potential value. According to the invention, maximum loads on switching elements are avoided and undesirable phenomena such as voltage breakdowns or flow voltages are counteracted as a result of the more favorable field distribution.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2008Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Walter Beyerlein, Richard Eichhorn, Werner Kühnel, Sabine Missel
