  • Patent number: 4513946
Abstract: There is disclosed a novel sealing member and arrangement for a valve of the type including a valve body having a fluid passage therethrough and a flow control member movably supported relative to the body for opening and closing the flow passage, such as found in a ball or butterfly type of valve constructions. The valve body and flow control member include, respectively, an annular sealing surface and an annular sealing member support groove or channel confronting the sealing surface and having an annular sealing member disposed therein. The sealing member includes an anchoring portion held between opposed sidewalls of the support groove, and a convoluted portion extending radially inwardly of the anchoring portion, with a sealing portion carried thereby, and designed to extend beyond the groove, for engagement with the sealing surface. The groove sidewalls are of slightly greater axial width than the sealing member to permit limited elastic axial deflection.

  • Patent number: 4253640
Abstract: A valve actuation system is provided for a valve of the type wherein at least two separate movements are utilized to achieve either opening or closing thereof. The actuation system includes a pair of hydraulic or pneumatic actuator units for automatically performing these two separate operations. An electrically energizable control valve is associated with each of these actuators for controlling the flow of a pressurized control medium therethrough to achieve actuation in the proper sequence for attaining the desired valve movement. A control circuit preferably comprises a plurality of switches responsive to the positions of these two valve actuators as well as the position, (viz., "valve open" or "valve close") of an operator accessible main control lever or switch. These switches deliver electrical power to energize the fluid flow control valves so as to automatically perform the correct sequence of actuator operations to open or close the valve, as desired.

  • Patent number: 4203460
Abstract: A ball valve unit for providing a fluid tight seal between a rotary valve member and its sealing components when in an open or closed position and which is adapted to permit a decrease in the sealing force to allow operation of the valve between the open and closed position. Said unit includes a body which defines a valve chamber and a pair of passages having openings communicating with the valve chamber on opposite sides thereof. An annular seal support is disposed about each opening and includes a substantially flat annular seal support surface. The seal support surfaces converge along a line equidistant from the surfaces in a first direction. A rotary ball valve member having a through bore for connecting the passages when in an open position is contained within the valve chamber.

  • Patent number: 4175578
Abstract: The invention contemplates a flow control valve that provides emergency sealing action upon inadvertent, thermally induced failure of the primary seal. The body of the valve includes an annular shoulder that is disposed adjacent an annular seat; and an annular collar of substantially incombustible corrosion resistant, nongalling material is specifically mounted on the shoulder, the collar including a first portion hermetically connected to the shoulder and a second, lip like portion free to move with respect to the shoulder and normally spaced from the selectively positionable valve element. This collar and more specifically the lip portion thereof is provided with prestressed regions normally situating the lip portion proximate the body shoulder and in position wherein said lip portion will not interface with the movable valve element.

  • Patent number: 4132071
Abstract: A hydraulic valve actuator includes at least one piston mounted for reciprocating movement in a cylinder for bidirectionally rotating a valve shaft mounted in the housing. A resilient spring member is held in compression between one side of the piston and an end wall of the cylinder for yieldably urging the piston to rotate the shaft in one direction, in the absence of a sufficient opposing hydraulic pressure. A hydraulic pump driven by an electric motor selectively drives the piston against the force of the spring member for rotating the valve shaft in the opposite direction. An electric solenoid operated valve is connected with the cylinder at either side of the piston, to provide a selectively openable path for hydraulic fluid, by-passing the pump to relieve the pressure applied thereby.

  • Patent number: 4124147
Abstract: There is disclosed a novel dispensing unit and system for the controlled, metered dispensing of one or more liquid products. The unit which serves to provide an important part of the system is designed for use with an arrangement wherein pressurized liquid products are delivered to the unit for controlled, metered dispensing. The unit is characterized primarily by the employment of metering chambers defined partially by flexible diaphragms. In conjunction with each said chamber, there are provided an inlet and outlet passage arrangement and a valve arrangement for controlling the supply and discharge of liquid product from said metering chamber. The unit includes a selectively operable control arrangement provided for opening and closing the valving arrangement, and also alternately pressurizing and venting the metering chamber diaphram with respect to a pressurized medium.

  • Patent number: 4044994
Abstract: There is disclosed a unique sealing arrangement for a valve of the type which includes a first element defining a valve body having a fluid passage extending therethrough, with a second, flow control element rotatably disposed in said passage for controlling the flow of fluid through said valve by movement between valve open and valve close positions. One of said elements, either the valve body or the flow control member, includes an annular sealing surface, while the other of said elements is provided with an annular seal ring support groove confronting said sealing surface in relative close proximity thereto, and having an annular seal ring member disposed therein.

  • Patent number: 4032044
Abstract: There is disclosed a system and dispensing unit for the controlled and metered dispensing of a liquid product, or of two or more liquid products, which should be combined in the right proportions only shortly before ultimate usage. The basic system, as disclosed, employs a single pressure source for pressurization of the liquid product and the pressurized dispensing of the liquid product from the dispensing unit, per se. In addition to the basic illustrated system, there are disclosed novel dispensing units which enables the dispensing of a uniform or proportioned amount of liquid upon each operation thereof. Further, these units are constructed so as to permit the dispensing of several different liquids simultaneously from the same unit, or the selected dispensing of the individual liquid.

  • Patent number: 4014514
Abstract: A closure-port type valve is constructed so as to minimize internal stresses and lengthen valve life. A limit plate is secured between a valve bonnet and a valve body; the limit plate halts motion of a diaphragm compressor as the compressor moves the diaphragm toward a valve-closed position. The limit plate and compressor are provided with surfaces which substantially completely support the diaphragm when the valve is fully opened. The limit plate and valve body seal and retain an outer diaphragm edge while achieving metal-to-metal contact, thereby preventing leakage and rocking movement which might otherwise be caused by repeated valve operation, or externally applied forces, such as overhung loads from actuators or seismic shocks.
