  • Patent number: 6237569
Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine, specially a diesel engine, comprising a crankcase and cylinder heads. Said system is provided with injectors to inject fuel into the combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine and a high pressure pump which supplies fuel to a common rail supplying fuel to the injectors via high pressure lines. According to the invention, the common rail is lodged in or on the walls of the crankcase. This arrangement of the common rail track and preferably also that of the fuel injectors and the high pressure lines in the housing of the internal combustion engine optimally protects the fuel injection system from external influence and damages while at the same time hermetically closing it from the outside by forming an internal leakage chamber.

  • Patent number: 5836421
Abstract: A lubricating system for an internal combustion engine maintains lubrication even in extreme emergency positions of the engine such as slants within the range of about 90.degree. to about 270.degree., relative to the horizontal and even for upside down engine positions. For this purpose, a hydraulic accumulator (16) is connected to the lubricant circulating circuit through a parallel connection of a non-return valve (17) and a controllable valve. Under normal operating conditions, the hydraulic accumulator is charged with lubricant under the pressure prevailing in the lubricant circulating system. Under emergency conditions, the normal lubrication is stopped and emergency lubrication continues through the controllable valve that is opened in response to a pressure drop in the normal lubricant circulating system.

  • Patent number: 5615641
Abstract: A cylinder head has four valves and an injection valve arranged in the center thereof for an internal-combustion engine particularly for a diesel engine. The cylinder head includes a closed runner which is arranged concentrically with respect to an axis of the injection valve and which connects a compression bottom with a top side of the cylinder head. Coolant bores extend in direct proximity to inlet and outlet ports from a circumference of the cylinder head to an interior water space of the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 5501122
Abstract: Two components, such as an engine block (1) and a gear case (2), are coupled to each other by at least two flexible coupling links (7, 8) and by a rigid coupling link (10). One end of each flexible coupling link is connected to the engine block or gear case by a first screw connector (11, 11A, 11B) having a threaded bolt (13) passing through a twin cone (16) acting as a centering member. The conical surfaces of the twin cone centering member (16) cooperate with respective conical surfaces (12) in the gear case (2) and in an expander ring (17) bearing with its outer surface against an inner surface of a hole in the coupling link (7, 8) or an intermediate bushing in the coupling link, whereby the force transmitting connection is accomplished with radial clamping forces. The cooperation of the conical surfaces compensates for alignment tolerances and uneven stress distributions are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4869211
Abstract: The invention relates to the construction of a lubricating oil channel (12), by way of which lubricating oil is conducted to spray nozzles (2) for the cooling of the pistons of an internal combustion engine. The spray nozzles (2) are connected with spray nozzle holders (3) that are secured at cross walls (4) in the crankcase (5). Passages (7) formed-in into the spray nozzle holders (3) which adjoin through-bores (9) in the cross walls (4). Plug-in pipes (10) are arranged between the passages (7) of two mutually oppositely disposed spray nozzle holders (3) secured at different cross walls (4) which complete the lubricating oil channel. A simple and cost-favorably representable lubricating oil channel is indicated therewith. A particular advantage is that the components of the lubricating oil channel are finish-machined prior to the installation and thus contaminations by machining residues are controllable prior to the installation.

  • Patent number: 4702672
Abstract: A fluid flow machine of the radial type of construction with adjustable guide blades in a radially extending annular channel of the fluid flow housing. The bearing support of the guide blades takes place in a guide blade carrier that represents a one-piece bearing cage with lateral flow surfaces for the guide blades. The guide blade carrier is composed of two bearing rings which are combined into one structural unit by way of fixed connecting webs disposed in the flow path. In this structural unit, the space for the guide blades can be machined very accurately in its axial width to maintain the tolerances which means small gap losses and correspondingly favorable efficiencies. Since the guide blade carrier is so arranged in the housing that expansions of the housing by reason of heat or pressure warping are not transmitted, the gap tolerances can be selected correspondingly still smaller, and the efficiency can be still further improved.

  • Patent number: 4447062
Abstract: A sealing arrangement between the shaft and housing of a fluid flow engine with a blocking gas space limited by piston rings; the blocking gas pressure is controlled by changing the effective cross section of venting bores and therewith is matched to the gas pressure to be sealed off; the change of the cross section of the venting bores is thereby automatically realized by axial displacement of the corresponding piston ring as a function of the gas, respectively, blocking gas pressure acting on the same. An axial wear at the piston ring and at the groove flank, which is present during the running-in period, is avoided subsequent thereto as a result of the decrease of the blocking gas pressure.

  • Patent number: 4147467
Abstract: An exhaust gas turbocharger for internal combustion engines with a turbine wheel traversed by the exhaust gases radially from the outside toward the inside and with a water-cooled housing; a ring-shaped insert member of heat-resistant steel which is centered in the housing is arranged radially about the turbine wheel between the turbine wheel and the housing, which forms the outer fixed turbine wheel cover and takes over the guidance of the exhaust gases both during the entry and discharge out of the turbine wheel.
