Patent number: 5551382Abstract: This invention relates to a reciprocating internal combustion engine having a cylinder crankcase with a cylinder head with is designed to reduce the manufacturing and spare parts cost. A single design unified cylinder head is employed for liquid cooling and air cooling, the cylinder head having both cooling spaces for the liquid coolant and cooling fins for the cooling air. Coolant passageways in the cylinder head are connected to coolant spaces in the cylinder block portion of the cylinder crankcase by way of openings in the upper end of the cylinder block and openings in the cylinder head gasket which permit flow of coolant to the annuli in the cylinder head. In addition to the annuli, the coolant passageways in the cylinder head include a longitudinally extending header, horizontally extending web ducts extending radially inward from the annuli and vertically extending connecting conduits inclined relative to the cylinder axes interconnecting the web ducts and the header.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Lothar Bauer, Werner Lemme, Reinhard Rechberg, Wolfgang Strusch, Heinz W. Fuchs, Jurgen Wahnschaffe

Patent number: 5529045Abstract: A reciprocating internal combustion engine having a cylinder crankcase and a ventilation device for said crankcase, which ventilation device is in fluid flow relation with an oil-gas distribution line in a cylinder head. The fluid flow connections between the ventilation device (3) and the interior of the cylinder crankcase (1) and between the ventilation device (3) and the oil-gas distribution line is effected solely by flow passages internal to the engine.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1995Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: Kockner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Lothar Bauer, Werner Lemme, Kai Tedsen, Reinhard Rechberg

Patent number: 5483928Abstract: An internal combustion engine which each cylinder has a cylinder cooling space and each cylinder head has a head cooling space, the individual cylinder cooling spaces being connected in series, the individual head cooling spaces being connected in series and the cylinder cooling spaces, as a group, cooling spaces, as a group, being connected in series. The engine includes a lubrication oil system which supplies cooling oil to the cylinder and head cooling spaces as well as supplying lubricating oil to lubricate other components such as the bearings for the crankshaft, the crankshaft and the piston connecting the rods.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: Klockner-Humboldt-Duetz AGInventors: Hans-Peter Mahlberg, Heinz W. Fuchs, Reinhard Rechberg, Lothar Bauer, Werner Lemme, Wolfgang Strusch, Tai Tedsen, Herbert Schleiermacher, Jurgen Wahnschaffe

Patent number: 5277663Abstract: A connecting passageway is provided between a cooling air fan and an enclosure for an enclosed belt drive of an internal-combustion engine, whereby the belt drive is cooled by a cool-air stream diverted from the cooing fan.The connecting passageway is made as an air shaft, which is formed largely from existing parts of the internal-combustion engine and, in addition, is arranged in such a fashion that it has no parts protruding beyond the outer counter of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1991Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Kloeckner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Werner Lemme, Lothar Bauer

Patent number: 5131361Abstract: A centrifugal governor for an internal combustion engine having a bosshead (2) which can be displaced axially along a governor driving shaft (1) by centrifugal weights (3) and a governor lever (7), the pivoted position of which is controlled by the axial movement of the bosshead (2). Axial motion of the bosshead (2) is converted to pivotal motion of the governor lever (4) by a pair of bearings (5) mounted on the latter and having outer raceways (6) which roll on the bosshead (2).Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1990Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: Kloeckner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Ernst-Siegfried Hartmann, Werner Lemme

Patent number: 4972714Abstract: A mechanical governor for an internal combustion engine with a measuring element optimized with respect to weight and working capacity. The governor sleeve is of a thin-walled, light weight construction and centrifugal weights are provided which have stops to prevent collision and entanglement with the governor sleeve. The bearing pins for the centrifugal weights are located near the radially outer circumference of the governor configuration.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1989Date of Patent: November 27, 1990Assignee: Kloeckner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Wolfgang Strusch, Werner Lemme, Horst-Herbert Krause

Patent number: 4969436Abstract: A governor for injection pumps of diesel internal combustion engines in which the injection amount is controlled by the boost pressure. The governor is mounted directly on the crank casing of the internal combustion engine together with an electromagnet which is energized at startup. The governor and the electromagnet transmit thrust and motion to the control rod of the injection pump through the same lever system. The electromagnet is switched in such a way that it overrides the governor during the engine starting process. The lever system is constructed to produce a nonlinear transmission of the movement of the membrane to the control rod.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1989Date of Patent: November 13, 1990Assignee: Kloeckner-Humboldt-Deutz AGInventors: Ernst-Siegfried Hartmann, Werner Lemme, Heinz W.
