  • Patent number: 6451452
Abstract: A lead-free multilayer material for plain bearings and a process for the production of corresponding bearing shells for improved emergency running and mechanical load-carrying capacity characteristics. The multilayer bearing material comprises a lead-free copper alloy having a copper content ranging from 50 to 95 wt. %, and an overlay formed of a lead-free tin and copper having a tin content ranging from 70 to 97 wt. % and a copper content ranging from 3 to 20 wt. %.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 2001
Date of Patent: September 17, 2002
Assignee: Federal-Mogul Weisbaden GmbH & Co. KG
Inventors: Fritz Niegel, Karl-Heinz Gruenthaler, Werner Lucchetti, Hans-Ulrich Huhn

  • Patent number: 6015236
Abstract: A plain bearing shell (2a', 2b') exhibits a reduction in oil carbon formation on the plain bearing backing and an improvement in plain bearing interference fit during operation through a decrease in the relative movement between bearing backing and receiving bore. The ratio of the effective wall thickness W.sub.eff to the external bearing diameter D is defined by 0.012.ltoreq.W.sub.eff /D.ltoreq.0.02. The ratio of the installation free spread S to the external bearing diameter D is defined by: 0.025.ltoreq.S/D .ltoreq.0.05.

  • Patent number: 5139350
Abstract: Thrust friction bearings with bent holding lugs wherein the holding lugs depressions are formed in the slide layer before the bending of the lugs. In one example, one shallow groove is stamped into an integral bracket forming a holding lug. In another example, several depressions are formed in rows, instead of grooves. The grooves or rows of depressions extend in a direction across the lug, preferably lying at an angle to the axis of curvature. Thus, when the holding lugs are formed by bending, damage to the slide bearing material will not occur.
