  • Patent number: 5071943
Abstract: Secondary products formed in the chlorination of butadiene can be reacted with phenols in the absence of iron catalysts to form novolak-like phenolic resins in such a way that the tetrachlorobutane present in the secondary products does not react. It can be distilled off with the excess phenol and isolated in pure form from the distillate obtained.

  • Patent number: 4617605
Abstract: A carrier element for an IC module for incorporation into data carriers, in which the IC module is connectd with contact surfaces by means of leads, and the contact surfaces are designed for direct contacting. In order to protect the Integrated Circuit against destruction due to static charges, measures are provided to dissipate outside the circuit any portions of charge that may occur. In one embodiment, all terminals of the circuit have a low resistance connection with each other. The connection is suspended during each operational phase and is then restored. In a further embodiment, the terminals are bridged by spark gaps. This protective step is advantageous in that it is not necessary to remove and then restore the bridging.

  • Patent number: 4484067
Abstract: An identification element in the form of an integrated circuit, for example for identification cards and similar data carriers. The element contains a confidential code which is known only by the lawful owner of the card and is compared in the integrated circuit with a typed in code.To prevent the unauthorized use of the card, an independent circuit (1), which is isolated from the rest of the circuit, is provided in the element to detect incorrect code inputs and then render the card inoperable for a certain period of time. The off-period can be set as a function of the possible code permutations in such a way that it is practically impossible for the fraud to find out the correct code within the normal period of validity of the card. The circuit (2) can also be used to maintain the operability of the card for a predetermined period of time when the correct code has been typed in and without any further inputs.
