    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for the early recognition of a possible failure of an electrically controlled brake system. For this purpose, the onboard power-supply voltage provided by a vehicle battery is checked for the purpose of early recognition of a possible failure of the electrically controlled brake system, in that an electrical load is switched on by a controller assigned to this load and, with the load in the switched-on state, checking of the vehicle battery is effected by means of a further controller. The result of the checking is used for the early recognition of a possible failure of the electrically controlled brake system in that, for example, it is made available to the vehicle driver in order that the latter is able to arrange in good time for replacement of the vehicle battery. A further measure consists in the switching-off of all non-safety-relevant high current-consumers in the motor vehicle.
