  • Patent number: 5718814
Abstract: A separating plant for separating metals from an electrolyte which contains metal, particularly for coating steel strip, includes successively arranged vertical coating cells in which the strip to be coated is guided from an upper deflection roller and/or current-carrying roller to a lower deflection roller and from there to another upper deflection roller and/or current-carrying roller. The upwardly or downwardly travelling strip portion passes through a gap between vertically arranged anodes and an electrolyte flow which is circulated by means of pumps is fed into the gap, preferably in a direction opposite the strip travel direction. Two oppositely arranged walls of each coating cell are constructed as anode plates and adjacent anode plates of successive coating cells form a separating chamber.

  • Patent number: 5534155
Abstract: For purification of liquids used for cooling and/or lubrication interspersed with metallic and/or other materials contaminations, especially for separation of rolling scale and of substances containing oil or grease from the industrial process water in open or exposed cooling circulation cycles in the smelting industry, especially in rolling mills, it is proposed to separate the coarse rolling scale by gravity sedimentation from the contaminated process water, to subsequently remove the mid-size and fine rolling scale particles from the process water prepurified in this manner by magnetic separation, to divide by flotation the thus finished clarified or purified process water into fractions containing oil concentrate, water and the finest rolling scale particles carrying little oil, the purified process water is to be used as a cooling agent, the entire rolling scale separated out of the process water is smelted in the form of sinter and the concentrate containing oil is either rejected or subjected to a wast

  • Patent number: 5527017
Abstract: An apparatus for dissolving zinc by means of acid-containing liquid electrolytes includes a container for zinc particles to be dissolved, inlet and outlet devices for continuously admitting and discharging fresh or zinc-enriched electrolytes, and collecting and discharging devices for the gases produced during the dissolution of zinc, such as, hydrogen. The apparatus container for receiving the electrolyte has in its lower portion an intermediate screen floor for placing the zinc particles filling thereon. The inlet devices for the fresh electrolyte are arranged below the intermediate screen floor. An overflow for the zinc-enriched electrolyte is arranged in the upper portion of the container. Filters and catch containers are arranged following the overflow. A gas collecting chamber with discharge device is arranged above the apparatus container.

  • Patent number: 5417850
Abstract: A band filter for the removal of foreign material particles from liquid baths, including a tub filled with liquid, guide rollers for a filter band arranged within the tub bath, the band being introduced into the tub from one side, guided with a spacing above the bottom of the tub and subsequently again conveyed out of the tub towards the top. The filter band being configured as a powered endless screen tissue band or as a filter fleece which is placed upon a support belt that is also driven in an endless manner. The filter fleece can in this case be unwound or reeled off a roller arranged outside of the tub, and a negative pressure chamber receiving the filtered liquid is arranged beneath the filter band. The faces of the filter band facing the bottom of the tub lie on a plurality of support faces extending transversely to the guidance direction of the filter band so as to be spaced from each other and parallel next to each other.

  • Patent number: 5090225
Abstract: A method for cooling and lubricating rolls and/or the rolled material in cold rolling of metal strips in a rolling mill stand. The method includes supplying emulsifiers as necessary and emulsions which contain at least one oil phase. The emulsion is prepared immediately in front of the rolls of the rolling mill stand or immediately in front of the strip inlet into the rolling gap formed by the work rolls by separately supplying the media which form the emulsion. Subsequently, the emulsion is collected behind the rolling mill stand and the emulsion is broken up and the liquid phases are separately processed and reused for forming the initial emulsion.

  • Patent number: 4801863
Abstract: Apparatus for enabling continuous monitoring of a mixture ratio of two different liquids as well as to limit it to those mixture amounts which are drawn off at a particular time for the purpose of being used which includes a receptacle filled by a liquid or through which the liquid flows. The receptacle comprises two electrodes insulated from each other and located opposite each other at which a capacitance measuring device determining the respectively occurring capacitance is connected. The dielectric constants of the components of the mixture which differ in many mixtures, for instance, in an oil-water mixture, permit, because of the fixed dimension of the constituted condenser, the determination of the composition of the mixture by means of the respectively existing dielectric constant so that, for instance, harmful water penetrating into oil systems provided for lubrication can be determined in small amounts and can trigger appropriate warning signals.

  • Patent number: 4467629
Abstract: A steel strip is first passed longitudinally in a predetermined travel direction through a nip between a pair of parallel rolls, and then passed downstream in the direction from the rolls over a sensor that engages the strip at a plurality of zones spaced apart on the strip transverse to the direction. The sensor generates respective output signals corresponding to the deviations from planarity of the strip at the zones. A treatment liquid is sprayed uniformly and at a relatively high temperature on the rolls while respective streams of a coolant liquid at a relatively low temperature are directed at regions of the rolls corresponding to the zones. The heat exchange between the streams and the rolls is varied in accordance with the respective output signals to thermally change the diameters of the rolls in the respective regions and thereby eliminate the deviations in planarity detected by the sensor.
