Patent number: 11187677Abstract: Apparatus and method of characterizing a material. A sample of a material to be characterized is placed into a thermomechanical analyzer (TMA) instrument, the material sample being a cylindrically- or rectangularly-shaped pellet having parallel top and bottom faces. The TMA has a measurement probe with a single buffer rod intermediate an ultrasound transducer and the top face of the material sample. Ultrasound waves are transmitted through the buffer rod and the top face of the material sample. Signals from the ultrasound waves passing through the material sample are received using a receiving sensor below the bottom face of the material sample. The TMA instrument is then used to control the temperature and forces applied to the material sample and to measure changing length of the material sample. Finally, the ultrasonic attenuation and velocity properties of the material are calculated as a function of the material sample length measurement and received ultrasound signals.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2021Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Inventor: Wesley Nelson Cobb

Patent number: 7017832Abstract: A piercing nozzle is disclosed having first and second elongated, hollow members connected at a connection that allows fluid to be communicated from the first member to the second member. The first member has a hose connector for attachment to a hose. The second member has a plurality of holes positioned proximate an end that penetrates a wall. An anvil is connected to the second member proximate the first end of the second member, and a piercing tip is connected to the second end of the second member. In use, the nozzle may be swung like an axe to penetrate a wall. Water or other fluid passes through interior cavities of the nozzle from the second end of the first member, through the first and second members, and out the holes in the second member, on an opposing side of the wall.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2004Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Pro-Fab, Inc.Inventors: Wesley Nelson, Frank Michaud
