  • Publication number: 20240426451
Abstract: A vehicle includes individual light sources that are separated in space from neighboring light sources. Collimators can collimate light emitted from the light sources, and a first diffusing surface is configured to receive the collimated light and to diffuse the collimated light in a first direction transverse to a first propagation direction of the collimated light. A second diffusing surface is configured to receive the light diffused by the first diffusing surface and to diffuse the received light in a second direction transverse to a second propagation direction of the collimated light.

  • Publication number: 20240201491
Abstract: A windshield head up display system for an occupant of a vehicle comprises: a picture generating unit comprising a light source, the picture generating unit generating light for the head up display system in a first light path; a hybrid reflective intermediate image screen characterized by at least i) a field correction term that defines a carrier shape of the hybrid reflective intermediate image screen and ii) a diffuser term that defines a surface structure on the hybrid reflective intermediate image screen, wherein the hybrid reflective intermediate image screen receives the light from the picture generating unit; and at least one mirror that receives the light, after reflection and diffusion at the hybrid reflective intermediate image screen, in a second light path; wherein the head up display system is configured so that a windshield of the vehicle receives the light after reflection at the mirror, and reflects the light toward the occupant.

  • Publication number: 20240151377
Abstract: A solid state headlight comprises: a light-emitting diode light source; an illumination micro-lens; a projection micro-lens; a collimating optic positioned between the light-emitting diode light source and the illumination micro-lens; a metal layer positioned between the illumination micro-lens and the projection micro-lens, the metal layer having an aperture; a high-reflectivity coating positioned between the metal layer and the illumination micro-lens, the high-reflectivity coating having a reflectivity of at least about 80%; and a low-reflectivity coating positioned between the metal layer and the projection micro-lens, the low-reflectivity coating having a reflectivity of at most about 20%.

  • Patent number: 10634772
Abstract: A light detection and ranging (lidar) system is provided that is incorporated into a vehicle and which is configured to efficiently adapt to varying road conditions as well as potential obstacles that may lie in the vehicle's pathway. The system employs a spatial light modulator (SLM) to create a plurality of illumination zones within the system's field of view. The SLM allows the lidar system to alter the size of each illumination zone as well as the light intensity within each of the zones as required by road conditions and potential obstacles.

  • Patent number: 10232763
Abstract: An adaptive light module for incorporation into a vehicle's headlight assembly is provided, where the light module may be incorporated as a single unit, or incorporated as one of a plurality of units. The light module, which uses an LED array, collimating optics, illumination and projection micro-lens-arrays (HLAs), is configured to allow tailoring of the illumination intensity distribution by selectively activating/deactivating subsets of the LED array.
