  • Patent number: 4867777
Abstract: A glassware molding machine having a parison molding portion and a container body molding portion includes a spray apparatus with a spray head that is operatively attached to a spray spindle. Vaporized lubricant is sprayed radially outward from the spray head while the spray head is rotated and moved upwardly through the molding cavity. The automatic cycle of the glassware molding machine is interrupted while the mold halves are closed so that the lubricant is not deposited onto mating surfaces of the mold halves; a barrier of air is provided to prevent lubricant from being deposited onto the parison plunger; a collection system is provided to capture exhaust materials from the application of lubricant to the hot mold surfaces; and provision is made for depositing a heavier layer of lubricant, or a different lubricant, on a selected surface of the molding cavity.

  • Patent number: 4680050
Abstract: A glassware molding machine includes a plunger and neck mold assembly that cooperates with a carriage and a parison blank mold to form a parison around a first vertical axis (46) in a forming station, and to suspend the completed parison by the neck ring portions. A pair of carriges, and body forming mold portions, alternately cooperate with the neck ring portions to form a container from the parison while the parison remains suspended by the neck ring portions and while the parison remains around the first vertical axis in the forming station. While one pair of forming mold portions transport a completed container from the forming station to a cooling and take-out station with the container held between the closed forming mold portions, the other pair of forming mold portions, are open and, with timing independent of the movement of the first pair move by rectilinear movement back to the forming station.

  • Patent number: 4659357
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for cooling the neck ring (26) and the parison mold (22) of the parison molding portion (20) of an individual section (162) of a glassware molding machine (164) by the use of fan air which is provided to the section box (166) by a motorized fan (300+302) and a fan box (298). The apparatus includes a damper valve (64) with a rotary actuator (82) for selectively controlling flow of fan air to the neck ring (26) and the parison mold (22); and the apparatus includes an isolation sleeve (146) and a temperature controlled valve (170) for utilizing the thermal energy of air discharged from cooling passages (122 and 124) in the parison plunger (116), and for automatically controlling the temperature of the fan air in the section box (166) regardless of ambient air temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4629488
Abstract: A parison mold portion (20) of an individual glassware molding machine, of the type having a parison mold (22), a split neck ring (28), a neck ring holder (30), an upper receiver cap (40), and a parison plunger (116) , is provided with means for cooling the neck ring (28) and the parison mold (22). The means for cooling the neck ring (28) and the parison mold (22) includes a plurality of first cooling holes (214) in the upper receiver cap (40), a plurality of second cooling holes (216) in the neck ring (28) that communicate with the plurality of first cooling holes (214), and a plurality of third cooling holes (230) in the parison mold (22) that communicate with the plurality of second cooling holes (216).
