  • Patent number: 6699685
Abstract: A chromogenic &bgr;-galactosidase substrate producing an insoluble precipitate of a first color when reacted upon by &bgr;-galactosidase and a chromogenic &bgr;-glucuronidase substrate producing an insoluble precipitate of a second, contrasting color when reacted upon by &bgr;-glucuronidase are combined in a test medium for quantitatively identifying and differentiating general coliforms and E. coli. The &bgr;-galactosidase substrate 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-&bgr;-D-galactopyranoside which produces an indigo blue precipitate when reacted upon by &bgr;-galactosidase may be used with one of the novel compounds 6-chloroindolyl-&bgr;-D-glucuronide, 4,6-dichloroindolyl-&bgr;-D-glucuronide, 6,7-dichloroindolyl-&bgr;-D-glucuronide, and 4,6,7-trichloroindolyl-&bgr;-D-glucuronide, which produce mauve or magenta precipitates when reacted upon by &bgr;-glucuronidase.

  • Patent number: 4246194
Abstract: Novel amino-hydroxy-alkylene sulfonic acid zwitterions are described which have the general formulas ##STR1## wherein A and B are each independently a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or hydroxyaliphatic group,n is one or two, andR.dbd.N is a cyclic radical comprising one or two ring nitrogen atoms, zero or one ring oxygen atoms and the remainder of the ring being carbon atoms, and water soluble salts of said acids. These organo-sulfonic acid compounds are useful as hydrogen ion buffers in biological research and particularly for tissue culture.

  • Patent number: 4188271
Abstract: A composition is described which provides an improvement in the electrodeposition of zinc from aqueous alkaline plating baths and particularly from alkaline plating baths containing little or no cyanide. The new composition comprises the reaction product of one or more piperazines, at least one additional nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia or aliphatic acyclic compounds containing at least one primary amine group, formaldehyde, and an epihalohydrin or a glycerol halohydrin or mixtures thereof. Aqueous, alkaline zinc plating baths containing the additive compositions of the invention deposit a bright zinc coating over a wide range of current densities.

  • Patent number: 4131053
Abstract: This invention is directed to an armor plate made of three layers of diffnt materials each of which are separated by an adhesive. The assembly is an improved assembly which resists penetration from attack by fragments, and projectiles fired from rifles. The first layer is of a hard face material, the second layer has greater ductility than the hard face first phase and the third layer is doron, or any other type of fiberglass laminates.
