  • Patent number: 5622462
Abstract: A drill bit is provided with a pair of spiral cutting blades having opposed cutting edges which come together at an angle to form a starting tip. Each of the spiral cutting blades includes a spiral flute which extends longitudinally thereof and is provided with a cutting face thereon. Each cutting edge is provided with an inner edge segment and an outer edge segment wherein the inner edge segment extends outwardly from the starting tip a preselected distance and terminates at an inwardly extending inner wall portion of a gullet. The inner wall portion of the gullet is arcuate in structure and terminates at a preselected inward position with an outer wall of the gullet. The outer wall of the gullet extends angularly outwardly terminating at the intersection with an outer segment of the cutting edge. The outer edge segment of the cutting edge is defined by the outward terminating end of the outer wall of the gullet and the outer most extremity of the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 5309962
Abstract: A multiple saw blade adjustable dado cutter assembly. The cutter can be used with a table saw or a radial arm saw, for example, to make dado cuts in board lumber. A pair of cooperating cams, each connected to a saw blade, can be adjusted to make a dado cut of a desired width. If the desired dado width is wider than the two blade configuration can cut, a center cam attached to another blade can be inserted between the pair of cooperating cams. With the three blade configuration, the three cams cooperate to allow the three blades to be spaced for the desired width of cut. In both configurations and at any spacing width, the two or three blades employed remain in a generally parallel alignment and transverse to the axis of the arbor on which the assembly is secured. To permit the blades to function with this geometrical relationship and to be adjustable, not all of the blade teeth lie in the same plane. The sequentially operating three or more cam assembly has uses beyond dado cutting.

  • Patent number: 4607673
Abstract: A dovetail fixture for clamping and holding two workpieces and for guiding a cutting tool whereby mortises are cut in one workpiece and tenons are concurrently cut in the other workpiece. The fixture includes a guide template having a plurality of spaced apart fingers formed along at least one edge of the template and defining blind-ended spaces between its adjacent fingers. As the cutting tool is moved along the edge of the template having the fingers, mortises are cut in one workpiece and tenons are cut in the other workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4589458
Abstract: This invention relates to a dado cutting circular saw arrangement and more particularly to an arrangement comprising a pair of saw blades which are adjustable from a minimum dado width cutting position wherein the blades are juxtaposed relative to a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the blades. A cam arrangement adapted to be interposed between the saw blades is employed for selectively adjusting the position of the blades to cut dados of varying widths. The cam arrangement causes the blades to pivot from their minimum dado position, juxtaposed to the plane, about adjacent peripheral pivot points in a manner that selectively adjustably positions the peripheral edges of the blades diametrically opposite from those adjacent pivot points outward relative to the plane and, thus, provide a range of dado cutting widths.

  • Patent number: 4165668
Abstract: This invention provides a novel and improved miter gauge for use with a cutting tool, such as a circular saw blade and the like, by employment of a guide rail that cooperates with a guide slot in the work surface on which the gauge is supported, such as a table saw and the like. Basically, the novel miter gauge of the present invention includes base means having both a left and a right-hand locating surface that are arranged at a right angle to each other and also has joined to it the guide rail. The gauge further includes adjustable clamping means mountable from the base means for selectively clamping a workpiece against either one of those two locating surfaces.

  • Patent number: 3946774
Abstract: This invention provides a device for employing a motorized hand tool, such as a portable router and the like, to cut a spiralled groove in a workpiece, such as a leg for a table, chair, and the like. Basically, the device comprises: frame means including end block means rotatably journalling chuck means for holding the workpiece for rotation around an axis and guide means interconnected to the end block means for guiding the motorized hand tool for movement with respect thereto in a direction generally parallel to the axis; and drive means mounted on the frame means and being interconnectable between the motorized hand tool and the chuck means to cause movement of the motorized hand tool in a direction generally parallel to the axis in response to rotary movement of the workpiece around the axis.
