Abstract: A tape closure which is adhesively adhered about a pour opening on the exterior surface of a can end having a protective polymeric layer over the metallic can end which is adhered to the tape adhesive with a bond greater than the bond between the layer and the supporting surface therefor affording removal of the layer upon breaking the coating and delaminating the same from the support surface upon removal of the tape.

Abstract: An easy opening closure system comprising a container end portion having an opening and a scored portion adjoining the opening. An exterior tape and interior sheet material cover the opening and sandwich the scored portion. Removal of the exterior tape initiates tear of the scored portion and permits the scored portion to be pulled back away from the opening to enlarge the opening. A preferred easy opening closure system includes a reinforcing member which is adhered to the underside of the scored portion and to the exterior tape in the area of the opening. The reinforcing member facilitates bending of the scored portion away from the opening.

The exterior flexible film is essentially free of adhesive and is secured to the interior sheet material in the area of the opening by means of the adhesive layer of the interior sheet material.

Abstract: An improved easy open closure system is described, the closure system being particularly useful for cans containing carbonated beverages. The closure system comprises an exterior tape (having specified properties) which is adhesively secured to the portion of the container surrounding a pre-formed opening, and an interior sheet material (having specified properties) which covers the underside of the opening and is adhesively secured to the exterior tape in the area of the opening.
