  • Patent number: 8955600
Abstract: A multi-barrier system includes a first valve and a second valve that are both in fluidic communication with a lower completion. The first valve and the second valve are positioned proximate an uphole extent of the lower completion, and a member in operable communication with the first valve and the second valve. The system is configured such that both the first valve and the second valve are open when the member is in a first position, the first valve is closed and the second valve is open when the member in a second position, the first valve is open and the second valve is closed when the member is in a third position, and the first valve and the second valve are both closed when the member is in a fourth position. The first valve and the second valve are closable in response to retrieval of an upper completion.

  • Patent number: 6983795
Abstract: A gravel packing system featuring pressure actuated sliding sleeve valves mounted to an exterior annulus around a blanking pipe for screen sections is disclosed. An internal sliding sleeve valve is provided for subsequent closure of access through the screens. The presence of the annulus between the blanking pipe and the screen permits a backup access through perforating the blanking pipe while not damaging the screen. The sliding sleeve valves that are mounted internally and externally on the blanking pipe are removable apart from the screen section that already has gravel packed around it, if they fail to operate and need repair.

  • Patent number: 6929063
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a locator system for a cutting device in combination with a production string. Where the production string has at least one detent along its circumference. The invention also comprises a lock formed to engage the detent, a cutting device, and a body on which the lock is attached. The body is connected to the cutting device such that when the lock is engaged to the detent, the cutting device is operatively connected to the detent and the cutting device is positioned at a location to accurately sever the production string at a desired depth. An alternative embodiment of the detent is a nipple profile and the production string comprises a series of tubing members connected end to end. The tubing members can be a completion tool, tubing, or a combination of both. Also disclosed is a method of using the locator system.

  • Patent number: 6148916
Abstract: A perforating gun can be conveyed on tubing and fired while disconnected from the tubing. The gun is retained to a running tool at the lower end of the tubing in a locked position. Actuating a plunger by pressure, a weight bar or other techniques, breaks a rupture disc and allows use of hydrostatic pressure to stroke a piston and defeat the lock between the gun and the running tool. Upon exposure of ports on the gun to wellbore hydrostatic due to movement out of the running tool, the firing sequence in the gun is initiated. The weight of the gun, as well as hydrostatic or applied pressure in the wellbore, drives the perforating gun out of the running tool.

  • Patent number: 5577559
Abstract: A High-Rate Multizone Gravel Pack System is provided that allows significantly higher gravel packing flow rates than were previously available. This system includes a fluid bypass which greatly enhances flow rate and decreases damage to the bypass due to erosion. The system is employed in a multi-stage arrangement which allows the gravel-packing of multiple production zones with a single trip into the well bore. A memory gauge sensing wash pipe pressure and temperature is incorporated to allow for data acquisition during the gravel packing process.
