  • Patent number: 9353003
Abstract: The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) relates generally to a hydraulic composition with a prolonged open time. More particularly, the composition comprises at least one cement retarder and at least one accelerator. The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) further relates to a dry mortar composition comprising the hydraulic composition having prolonged open time without deterioration of the other cement tile adhesive properties such as workability, setting time, strength development and sag resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 13, 2014
Date of Patent: May 31, 2016
    Assignee: Hercules Incorporated
Inventors: Wilfried Adolf Hohn, Stefan Hucko, Alexander Adolphe Kindler, Vera Louise Nilles, Martin Wunderlich

  • Publication number: 20140171553
Abstract: The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) relates to a mixture composition for modifying a dry mortar formulation. The mixture composition comprises at least one redispersible polymer powder, a polyamide, a cellulose ether and a multivalent metal salt. The presently disclosed and claimed inventive concept(s) further relates a modified dry mortar formulation, a method of making the modified dry mortar formulation and a method of increasing the open time and water factor of the dry mortar formulation without deteriorating the mechanical strength of the cured dry mortar formulation.

  • Patent number: 8430957
Abstract: Hydroxyethylcellulose with a low molar substitution and which is uniformly substituted is useful in cement-based systems, including mortars. The cement-based system exhibits long pot life, as well as very high water retention capability at hot temperature, as well as better paste stability and optimized setting behavior for hot as well as cold temperature compared to typical, cement-based systems with commercial cellulose ether compounds. Less hydrophilic cellulose ethers such as methylhydroxyethylcellulose can be added as a second cellulose ether.

  • Publication number: 20120315489
Abstract: The present invention relates to mortars which include a blend of cellulose ether compounds and exhibit improved pot life, water retention capability, and open time, as well as high tensile strength values. These mortars can be used in the fabrication of external insulation finishing systems (EIFS), particularly in hot environments. The cellulose ether blend includes hydroxyethylcellulose ether and methylhydroxyethylcellulose ether. Water soluble anionic polyacrylamide and hydroxypropyl starch can also be added to the mortar.

  • Publication number: 20100323163
Abstract: Facing material useful in the manufacture of gypsum wallboard is surfaced treated in order to adhere an amount of seed crystals to improve the adhering affinity of the facing material for wet plaster thereby permitting the manufacture of gypsum wallboard with little or no added starch and reduced amounts of water. Various means for adhering the seed crystals to the facing material are described as well as, a method of converting the facing material and wallboards containing the facing material are also described.
