  • Patent number: 9390840
Abstract: An insulated high-temperature wire superconductor includes a wire of a non-insulated high-temperature wire superconductor, the width of which is at least 10 times its thickness and in which a high-temperature superconductor is introduced into a matrix or is applied to a substrate. The wire is provided with an electrically non-conducting insulating layer on both sides such that the two insulating layers have an insulating edge width in a range from 2 mm to 200 mm which projects in relation to the wire.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 4, 2012
Date of Patent: July 12, 2016
    Assignee: KARLSRUHER INSTITUT FUER TECHNOLOGIE
Inventors: Wilfried Goldacker, Stefan Fink, Andrej Kudymow, Steffen Elschner, Joerg Brand
  • Patent number: 8897846
Abstract: A process produces a connecting structure between two superconductors, in particular magnesium diboride superconductors embodied as a superconducting core wire surrounded by normally conducting metal. A substance which reduces the melting point of magnesium is admixed to a substance mixture including magnesium and boron, and the exposed ends of the core wires are brought into contact with the substance mixture, which is caused to react in situ at a reaction temperature corresponding to the lower melting point to give magnesium diboride.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 2010
Date of Patent: November 25, 2014
    Assignee: Siemens Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Antje Drechsler, Wilfried Goldacker, Marijn Pieter Oomen, Jacob Johan Rabbers, Sonja Schlachter

  • Patent number: 6418331
Abstract: In a multi-core-BSCCO high-temperature superconductor comprising a superconductor structure disposed in a silver enclosure, silver-enveloped superconductor filaments including a superconductive material having a metal component, and a resistive material layer disposed around the superconductor filaments and separating the superconductor filaments from each other, the resistive material layer consists of a carbonate having a metal component which is identical to a metal component included in the superconductor material.

  • Patent number: 4933139
Abstract: A process for the production of at least a one kilogram block of Chevrel-phase Pb.sub.x Mo.sub.y S.sub.z, wherein x=0.9 to 1.2, y=6.0 to 6.4, and z=7 to 8, includes mixing thoroughly stoichiometric quantities of starting materials in powdered form. The starting materials are selected from elemental Pb, Mo and S, sulfides of elemental Pb and Mo, and mixtures thereof. The starting mixture is introduced into a metallic container and evacuated to a pressure to 10.sup.4 Pa or less. The evacuated container is subjected to hot isostatic pressing at a constant pressure selected from a pressure ranging from 100 to 300 MPa, at a heating rate ranging from 10.degree. to 100.degree. C./hr., at a final pressing temperature ranging from 800.degree. to 1200.degree. C., and for a pressing period ranging from 10 to 100 hours, whereby the starting materials react to form the block of Chevrel-phase Pb.sub.x Mo.sub.y S.sub.z. The block is cooled at a cooling rate ranging from 50.degree. to 500.degree. C./hr.
