  • Patent number: 5238341
Abstract: A connection system for connecting an interchangeable tool head to the spindle of a numerically controlled machine includes radially displaceable wedge members which when actuated radially to an outer clamping position provide for a clamping connection between the spindle and the tool head. When actuated to an inner release position the system allows for withdrawal of the tool head from the spindle. The wedge members are displaced by a central actuating rod connected to the wedge members via cam means such that the wedge members are positively driven by the cam means in both radial directions of movement.

  • Patent number: 4698898
Abstract: A numerically controlled machine tool includes a rotating tool in the form of a changeable tool block and an associated tool changing device. The tool-changing device includes a double-sided changing arm pivotable about an axis parallel to the spindle axis and includes a tool gripper for the transfer of tools between the spindle head and a tool magazine at each end. The tool block is clampable by the clamping device in radially differing positions on the spindle head. For this purpose, the tool block and the spindle head are provided with pointed teeth serving as clamping surfaces. The changing arm is longitudinally displaceable for the radial setting of the tool block. The clamping device further includes a spring device supported at the spindle head for applying the clamping force and an actuating device mounted on a separate carriage for applying the releasing force.

  • Patent number: 4640373
Abstract: The present invention deals with a bore head for deep-hole boring, in which a plurality of circumferentially spaced cutting members may be radially displaced in the bore hole by a common actuating device during operation. The actuating device includes an actuating rod for each cutting member, which actuating rod is in engagement with its associated cutting member by gear means including inclined teeth. The actuating rods are secured to a central actuating bar by a common connecting member. The bore head is interchangeably secured to a boring tube, and the actuating rod may be separated from the connecting member by a coupling which is automatically engaged and disengaged during changing of the bore head.

  • Patent number: 4617846
Abstract: A tool for a nc machine is provided with a radially displaceable surface slide serving as a tool holder. The tool head is interchangeable by a tool head changing device mounted on the nc machine. The tool head is automatically releasably mounted on the work spindle by means of a clamping cone and a tie rod concentrically disposed within the work spindle and engaging the conical surface of the clamping cone. There is provided a pair of control rods for radially displacing the surface slide and for limiting the radial movement of the surface slide, which control rods are adapted to be automatically separated by releasable clutches for interchanging the tool head (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4396320
Abstract: A boring unit comprises a rotary spindle and a tool support mounted therein. The tool supports includes a rearwardly extending headbolt and a rearwardly extending supporting arm. The supporting arm engages an inclined wedge surface, the latter being movable by a connecting rod so that the wedge surface imparts rotary movement to the supporting arm and to the tool support about an axis of adjustment which is oriented perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the spindle, thereby moving the tool in a radial direction. The headbolt of the tool support is retained within a chucking cage. The chucking cage is movable to a position for releasing the headbolt by means of the movable connecting rod.
