  • Patent number: 5112585
Abstract: A process and apparatus for removing flue gas cleaning residues in a combustion system. The combustion system includes a combustion chamber; a hot gas filter located downstream from the combustion chamber; and washers located downstream from the hot gas filter which employ a washing liquid. The hot gas filter includes filter elements and an inlet chamber located below the filter elements. Contaminants present in flue gas are precipitated in the washing liquid. Then, the washing liquid is neutralized, thereby enriching the washing liquid with salts. Next, the enriched washing liquid is injected into the inlet chamber, whereby the washing liquid evaporates and the salts contained in the washing liquid are deposited on the filter elements where they can later be removed and mixed with ashes from the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4793831
Abstract: A process for purifying flue gases by conducting the hot gases through a dry purification stage, and then through a pebble bed evaporator containing pebbles and a liquid. The flue gases then exit the pebble bed evaporator and are washed in a wet washing step. Waste liquid containing dissolved material from the wet washing step is then used as the liquid in the pebble bed evaporator; as this liquid evaporates in the pebble bed evaporator, solid precipitate forms on the pebbles. This solid precipitate is removed from the evaporator and is stored. Vapor from the pebble bed evaporator is condensed and used in the wet washing step. The purified flue gases exiting the wet washing step pass through a filter stage and are discharged.

  • Patent number: 4643311
Abstract: Stackable long-term storage container especially for radioactive waste comprises especially convoluted lid and bottom pieces to facilitate stacking. The lid is convoluted providing an annular projection which serves to allow grabbing of the lid and, together therewith, the drum. The floor has a rim which extends axially away from the floor and then is bent over upward toward the drum with drainage openings provided at the bottom edge. A resilient jacket is disposed around the bottom edge and surrounds the rim to prevent direct contact between the drums and scratching during stacking. A fiberglass reinforced plastic insert inside the drum protects the inner wall from damage. The special shape of the drum prevents causes for corrosion under all operating conditions of the drum, especially during very rough handling of the drum during filling, transport and storage.

  • Patent number: 4580694
Abstract: A seal structure for a double-lid system with an upper lid (chamber lid) for closing the opening of a first container (chamber) and a lower lid (drum lid) for closing the opening of a second container (drum), whereby the chamber lid is provided with a surrounding seal (chamber lid seal) and the corresponding opening of the drum is also provided with a circumferential seal (drum seal), the sealing mechanism being operable in such a way that the chamber lid seal and the drum seal fully retain their sealing capability with respect to both the chamber flange and the rim of the drum lid during all operations. To this end it is suggested that at least one of the two seals, preferably the drum seal, be provided with a closed annular cavity providing an air cushion at its radially inner end.

  • Patent number: 4055274
Abstract: A dual lid assembly for closing first and second coupled openings, has entirely separable first and second lids for closing fluid-tight the first and the second opening, respectively. The dual lid assembly further includes a lid connecting device for coupling fluid-tight the two lids to one another; a first actuating device coupled to the lid connecting device for operating the latter by an externally-applied force; a lid locking device for tightening the first lid to a wall defining the first opening; a second actuating device coupled to the lid locking device for operating the latter by an externally-applied force. The second actuating device includes an actuating element connected to the lid locking device and displaceable parallel to the axis of the first lid. There is further provided a bearing unit attached to the first lid in the center thereof; an actuator pin attached to a mid portion of the actuating element and slidably supported in the bearing unit.
