  • Patent number: 5660320
Abstract: A metallic alloy part having a bonded coating that includes dispersed hard-material particles embedded in a metal matrix, composed of a eutectic solder whose alloy elements include at least the base metal of the metallic alloy part. The solder is formed by fusion bonding on the metallic alloy part, a precoating composed of sequential layers of the elemental components of the solder applied on the metal part or on the hard-material particles. The composition and disposition of the various layers are graduated such that the melting points of the elemental solder components increase towards the outermost layer.

  • Patent number: 5177865
Abstract: A heat exchanger has two collecting pipes and a streamlined-section tube matrix connected with these two pipes. The collecting pipes comprise several thin sheet metal shells connected with one another which permits simplified and higher speed manufacture of the collecting pipes, particularly since manufacture of cutouts in the collecting pipes for fitting through the small streamlined-section tubes, which is otherwise very time-consuming, can be significantly simplified.

  • Patent number: 4383809
Abstract: A capsule for use in hot isostatic pressing of a complex-shape workpiece, comprising a ceramic core formed with a cavity having the negative contour of the workpiece, the cavity being open on one side of the core. A metal skin encloses the core, the skin being spaced from the side of the core having the cavity opening and snugly fitting all the remaining sides of the core. The skin has a port through which metal powder can be introduced into the cavity and the space between the skin and core. Where the capsule is used to make a turbomachine rotor having centrifugal blading, the spacing between the skin and core side corresponds to the thickness of the rotor disk. The manufacturing method includes inserting blades of sheet metal into the blade matrices of the cavity, followed by filling the remainder of the cavity with metal powder and then isostatically hot pressing the powder.

  • Patent number: 4328860
Abstract: A recuperator for heat exchange between two flow media of dissimilar temperatures is formed by a housing containing the flow of a first of the two flow media and a plurality of essentially parallel slidably supported tubes containing the flow of the second flow medium. The tubes are made of a highly heat resistant material, such as ceramic material, and are biased at one end by an expansion pressure device that acts upon flow deflection connectors at the one end of the tubes. In one preferred embodiment, the expansion pressure means utilizes spring force, while in other preferred embodiments, the expansion pressure device uses a compressible medium for applying the biasing force.

  • Patent number: 4323394
Abstract: A method for manufacturing turborotors such as gas turbine rotor wheels having blades of a ceramic material enables an improved rotor wheel to be produced by forming a blade-to-disk connection by sintering the roots of the blades in place within the rotor disk. According to one embodiment, premanufactured blades are joined to the rotor by sintering the entire rotor disk to the premanufactured blades, while in a second embodiment, premanufactured blades are joined to a premanufactured disk by a sintered connection. To compensate for different thermal expansions between the blade and the sintering material, a ductile material is applied to the blade roots before sintering. This ductile material is applied as a coating made of metallic powders, or as a metal felt.

  • Patent number: 4285634
Abstract: A gas turbine blade constituted of a supportive metallic blade core and a thin-walled ceramic blade airfoil, in which the airfoil is supported against a tip plate of the blade core. The blade core consists of rod or wire-shaped pins which have widened bases at their radially inner ends. Through these widened bases, the pins are retained in a metallic adapter slidable into a turbine disc.
